Hi,

Appreciate any news on whats happening at Southend Airport. How are the clubs/schools going. Any RPT? What is the future for the airport. Living in OZ - its hard to keep up.

Seawing FC is alive and very well.

Lots of engineering in the main hanger and passenger flights to the Channel Isles start in spring at weekends.

The new terminal should start later this year.

So all is well at EGMC

Apart from the grotty weather that is.

Rumours growing Flybe might make Southend one of their smaller bases. These are nothing other then usual aviation rumour mill stuff at the moment. But Southend could prove to be cheaper to operate from then city, and with the train station Southend would be no further in times of travelling time from Liverpool Street then Stansted.

Seawing is alive and very well - even has a new fence around the front garden:ok:

Work on the new terminal is alleged to be beginning in March. It will be located behind Willow Air's clubhouse if my memory serves me right.

Future is looking brighter.

Warms the cockles of me little 'eart to hear that Seawing are still going strong. Did my Flying Scholarship with them back in 1989. The late Danny Woolf sent me off for my first solo, bless him. A fine bunch of folks. Do they still pin the weather forecast on the wall next to the window, the forecast under a sticker saying 'Southend Forecast', and the window under a sticker saying 'Southend Actual'. Always used to make me chuckle, that did... :ok:

Did they get permission to move the church and hence extend the runway? That seemed to be a block on the development of the airfield.

"Late Danny Woolf" - Do you mean that?

If so, very sorry to hear.

Danny checekd me out when I "returned" to aviation in the mid 80's

Paul

You what?

Yep, sadly Danny passed away a few years ago to Cancer.

A real nice bloke and a true legend in Aviation! I couldn't get to his funeral myself but it is alleged that even some CAA officials attended! Don’t know how true that is though, however, if it is 100%, it goes to show how well respected he was.

Which part of Australia are you in?

Very Sad News - and Yes a Great Loss

I am based at Essendon airport, Melbourne where I work as a G2 Instructor - Shortly to be Grade 1!!

On another subject, does anyone remember/know Wendy Crick - She taught me to fly at SLAC in the 70's !!!! She was great and would just like to know where she is now - believe she went to BA training at one point.
