Just read this on the BBC Jersey site.

If it is true it will cause a problem for many non islanders.

You'll have to fill up in Jersey or Guernsey now.

Good luck with your planning.

The problem is facilities for decanting fuel into the mobile bowsers used at the airport. The states have recently introduced the concept of Health and Safety throughout the Bailiwick to a somewhat mixed reception.

Apparently the existing lease on the off site decanting facility ended in December and once the bowsers were empty that was that for now.

I understand that efforts are being made to find a H&S compliant premises so that service can be resumed. The guy quoted in the article is the new Chief Executive of the Alderney States, hopefully he'll get something done.

Saw one of the re-fueling trucks at Elstree a few years ago, and by the condition of that one im not surprised whats going on.

Horray,

Does that mean they we will be getting a free landing in Guernsey again to pick up fuel after landing in Alderney?

Ah - every cloud has a silver lining!

:D

Further to earlier posting. The issue is that the facilities near Braye harbour for storing and decanting fuel from the tankers to the bowsers used at the airfield has been shut down by Guernsey Health and Safety. What is needed is for Alderney States to provide a suitable facility for the decanting to take place.

Representations from pilots are likely to be helpful and should be sent as follows:

Colin le Ray
Airport Director
States of Guernsey Airport
La Villiaze
Forest
GY8 0DS

with a copy to the newly appointed CEO of the States of Alderney

Mr David Jeremiah
CEO
States of Alderney
QEII Street
Alderney
GY9 3AA

Basic message is

We understand that fuel is no longer available in Alderneybecause of Health and safety concerns imposed from Guernsey. This is a significant issue for visiting pilots and should be resolved as soon as possible.

This service has been well managed and a great incentive for UK pilots to visit the Island.

We urge you and the Alderney States to re-establish this facility with the minimum possible H&S constraints as soon as maybe.
