Can anybody shed any light on the positoning of these aerials on airliners.

I used to EMB145 where they were in the vertical stabiliser. When making an approach in a strong crosswind it was very noticable that you were sat 30m in front of the aerials.

I now fly the RJ/146 and the aerials are in the nose and the view out of the window is very much easier - keep the centreline running though the cockpit.

I have been told the B737 has them in the tail and nose and switches from the tail to nose at 1500 rad alt.

Is the EMB145 the odd one out, and if so, any reasons why?
