Things to come for EDI

With the whole raft of rumours flying around (nice pun) regarding EDI, I'm hoping to look to you knowledgable lot for some updates.

Looks like EDI-MUC is off for this year atleast, true?

How abot Tallinn, Stuttgart, and todays new one, Warsaw. Can we see these happening anytime soon?
How about AA, to throw a spanner into the works, ORD-EDI summer only maybe?
Any care to expand on this, any other rumours that have surfaced?

"LOT (LO/Warsaw) is planning to add Birmingham, Edinburgh and Donetsk to its network in 2005. It is also considering adding a new US route to either Philadelphia or Washington Dulles."

The Isle of Man was served by Loganair and Manx (or whatver they were called at the time) by a Saab and a Beech 1900 respectively. Both services left Edinburgh with 10 minutes of each other, usually with low to modest loads. Then, they both stopped the service at the same time: had one or other hung on a bit longer they could have had a decent route! Never mind.

FR are apparently sniffing around EDI, but won't move in unless BAA give them the mandatory discounts, so it's unlikely then!

I read a few months ago that Canadian Affair had 'doubled' the seats on sale to YYZ from EDI. Not sure how though as the set-up seems the same as last summer.
Were BHX and EDI joint?

In all seriousness, with Germanwings going to be leasing 9 ex US Airways A319s, perhaps they will add some more flights to EDI from the likes of STR or SXF

FR keep going on about BAA's charges
yet they are prepared to pay extra for those noisy 732s.?

Room, in my opinion, for regular year-round services from EDI to the following:

Berlin - lo-co would work, maybe Air Berlin or HLX
Dubai - like CO, I think EK would find dual operations at GLA and EDI would work to their advantage.
Geneva - one for Flybe, or maybe easyJet if they can agree a decent rate with BAA
Madrid - Served 2 x weekly during the summer by Flyglobespan, but could easily support an Iberia service.
Milan - Alitalia?
Munich - bmi or Lufthansa. Strongly rumoured for a long time now, but we are still waiting!
Orlando - simply crazy that EDI doesn't have a regular Florida charter any more.
Oslo - SAS. The Duo route was a strong performer before that airline's unfortunate demise.
Toronto - Air Canada. The 2 x weekly summer charters (Air Transat and TCX) aren't anywhere near adequate provision for this route, in my view.
Zurich - Swiss

Lots of Scots (often ex-BAe PIK people but originating from all over the land of Burns) work in TLS, mostly for Airbus, with lots of Visiting Friends and Relation - VFR - traffic. Not to mention the potential vacation traffic - ski-ing in the winter and the lovely Toulousain countryside in the summer.
How about EDI or GLA or even PIK to TLS? The FlyBe TLS-BRS service seems to work well so why not TLS to one of the three main Scottish airports? Thrice weekly would be a good start. What about it FlyBe or EZY?

I guess it would have to be a flybe 146 to TLS - might be a bit long for a Q400? If anyone announces such a route from GLA or EDI I'm sure FR will magically announce PIK-somewhere-near-Toulouse pretty quickly!

Ryanair don't fly from Prestwick to Carcassone, yet, although it is one that has been mentioned in the last week or two. Hope they do because it is somewhere I would like to go to.

I think that France is a market that is underserved. I think there should be services to places such as TLS, BOD (Duo never got round to starting Bordeaux before their demise), Lyon etc.

i went to the travel show in glasgow on sat, and got talking to the guy from the hungarian tourist office, and he said a flight from scotland to Budapest is due to start winter 2005/06, with either Easyjet or Flyglobepsan, personally i think it will be globsepan, but we shall see.

How about DSA?

Had previously thought MAN was too close for a lo-co, but then Jet 2 stepped in, and we have Flybe at LPL too.

With FR announcing DUB to DSA today, who else is waiting in the wings (sorry, bad pun I know). TOM have stayed off UK dom so far (apart from CVT to JER), Jet 2 a poss, but might want to protect LBA, so would Flybe look at this as a W, or even base some of those new Q400s they're about to order there?

I don't think a CVT route is required, not with the capacity on the BHX route just now!

Going by what was said the other day, might get a route or two to Scandanavia courtesy of Flybe. EDI-OSL would be good, another Duo route needing revived could be ticked off the list. ;)
