Dave Clark 10-40 mic' impedance problem

Does anyone know of an easy way to alter the mic' impedance/attenuate the mic' output, on a dave clark 10-40 headset?
Mine overpowers my instructors mic' and I have trouble hearing him.
I'd rather not have to cut into the cable.

I'm not an expert by any means, however it sounds to me like you just need an impedance matching unit.

Go to HERE (http://shop.pilotwarehouse.co.uk/category89023.html) and scroll down the list of goodies, and near the bottom you'll see HMU-1 Matching Unit. I would expect this to work.

Alternatively speak to http://www.headsetservices.com (http://www.headsetservices.com/) as they can probably tell you exactly what is happening and if a matching unit will cure it. They've always seemed pretty clued up when I've spoken to them in the past.

The problem is more likely to be the intercom system which does not adequately isolate the two microphones. The easiest way arround this is to purcahse one of the two or four way intercom boxes that are advertised in the gadget shops.

The 10-40 Mic will usually work with another 10-40 Mic but may effectively short out Electret type mics fitted to other headsets. Its not so much an impedance problem, as a DC resistance problem caused by the in the built in amplifier used to increase the output of the 10-40 dynamic mic.

Does your instructor use Peltors?

Although some people claim that DCs can cause problems with other makes/models of headsets I have found them to mix and match well with anything I have come across so far, bar Peltors.

My instructor uses DC 13.4's.

I want a cheap and easy solution. That impedance matching box looks good but costs more than I paid for the headset.

AS was said above the problem is with the intercom fitted to the aircraft not the headsets.

In this day and age training aircraft should have an intercom that works............ it's time to ask your self if you are doing business with the flying club !.
