Aircraft respray, any recommendations?

I'm looking to get a Grumman AA5 resprayed. Does anyone have any experience of a decent UK based paint shop where I could get it done?

Colton Aviation at Little Staughton. It's a strange looking place, sheep lurking near the runway etc - but perfectly usable.

They aren't cheap, but they do a fantastic job - highly recommended.

I can second Colton's. Used to have a share in a PA28 done by them back in 98 - it still looks pristeen, due mainly to the quality of the work in the first place.

Happened to fly into Colton's last week. I had a look at the setup and their work which looked very good.

I got a quote for the old girl which I thought was pretty good. About tow to three weeks work for a typical single they reckoned with slots in April but of course check with them.

When seeking out representative samples of how good a paint job is go look for ones that were done 3, 4 or even 5 years ago and see how they are holding up. I have seen many aircraft that have looked great out of the paint shop and for the first year or so, but are now looking far from what you would except after only 2/3 years having paid a fair good price for the job.
As for painting the Grumman make sure your chosen paint shop is happy to strip with chemicals the bonded structure and have done it before. It hasn’t been unknown for some shops to refuse to do it and only rub down, give such shops a wide berth. Done properly as per the maintenance manual with all the bond lines aluminium taped should give good results

I'll go with the recommendations for Colton Aviation. I had my Airtourer done 15 (yes 15) years ago and it still sparkles. I polish it with Autoglym in April and October i.e.start and end of the main flying season and it comes up very well. Typical of their attention to detail is that they got up to start work on it at 0500 hrs in order to get the white base coat on it before the June storm bugs were up and about. Not the cheapest but among the very best.

Seen some of Airtimes work at Bournemouth and it looks very good. They have a core of people who have been spraying aircraft at Bmth for years

Airtime at Bournemouth and Flying Colours at Oxford both do a good job.

I believe that Northants School of Flying of Sywell have had two warriors and and Arrow repainted by Colton at Staughton over the last five years. All appear to have been done very well. GRIZZ was the first to be done and still looks good now five years on. As a flying school aircraft they are doing hundreds of hours per annum and their condition is a testament to their work.
