This is a copy of the letter I sent to a pilot friend in Air India.

Just wanted to recount an interesting experience i had while I flew
to Muscat and back to Chennai.
Apart from the terrible service, mishandling of a technical snag
delay (hydraulic failure at the under carriage), and finally being
offloaded!!, what was really disconcerting was a very disturbing
vibration through out our flight. It came in cycles of 5 seconds and
lasted for about 2 seconds. This was new to me, and I have never
experienced this in my flying experience. On asking a cabin
crew member, he told me that it happens during descent, (and we were cruising!!!)I knew
immediately that he had no idea what he was talking about.
Just as we were approaching Mumbai, I left my seat to get some
water, I over heard a cabin crew member telling others, "just put
everything aside, its really bad". He sounded pretty alarmed. I
assumed it must be weather. The senior cabin crew member, all
composed, told me to get back to my seat quickly. I strapped up for
the bumps. To my surprise there were no clouds, and not a bump, and
a good touch down at Mumbai. During my exit, I saw the Capt.
coming out, and I appreciated the good landing (I couldn't discuss
the vibration, as I was late for my connecting flight) Capt. looked rather tense himself.

I do hope I have imagined more than what was happening, however I do
have a strong bad feeling about this vibration, could you please
explain it to me?

I reached home and told my wife that Air India is going to have some incident soon. sure enough, 2 days later, and emergency landing at Trivandrum...

Could any one please explain what caused this vibration?
Another capt friend told me it could be bad synchronization of the engines, which could lead to resonance causing airframe dissentegration.

explanations please

i am yet to meet a person who has flown before agree with any pilot any where , because when you sit behind as a pax more than twice [could be 100 times in your case.] you automatically know more than any pilot, so why ask us .... you already know

Satyanu, don't let the cynics - for want of a coarser word - grind you down. You posted an intelligent question, just wait awhile and it might be answered sensibly.

You might also consider, however, the possibility that the cabin crew's concern and the captain's tense face could have reflected other realities than your own immediate ones.

I agree, you will always get stupid replies!!

What aircraft were you on?? It will certainly help towards identifying what the 'vibes' were.

:ok:

i am so sure none of you are pilots, cause if you were you would have understood what i meant.having been in safety for 5 yrs i have tried and answered these types of questions. my favourite was a complaint from a pax who said the pilot was lost as he turned six times before landing whereas the pax who had flown before knew it required only three turns. you try and explain...
anyway satyajit if you really are concerned write to airindia, give them the flight no and the date and describe what you felt . i am sure air india will look in to it and get back to you.

I am coming very close indeed to closing this thread.

Unless the level of personal abuse drops significantly I will follow my urge.

No excuses accepted.
