This afternoon, for the first time i can remember in the nearly 5 yrs i've been flying out of LGW - I wasn't asked to squawk Ident on our first contact with TC.... ('twas a BOG1M btw)

Coincidentally....today was the first time i'd flown one of our aeroplanes with the new fit enhanced Mode-S transponder - into which we enter our callsign as well as the Mode-A code....

The Skipper and I were wondering if this had anything to do with it....or am i putting two and two together and getting five?

best regards and seasons greetings to all of you,

cheers :ok:

TC should have asked for an ident. It keeps SRG happy.
TC will not have any Mode S until the later part of 2005. The Pease radar is being updated and is 'US' until the summer.
KK ground radar may use Mode S now. The one at LL does.

I'd have to agree with Over+Out.

All KK deps should be Squawk ID'd on departure. Even when we're really busy it's just such a natural thing that most controllers do it without thinking.

"ABC123, Squawk ident, no speed restriction....." Even say it in my sleep. Scares the bejesus out of my girlfriend...
