The other day over LGW at FL310, a loud bang and my windshield looked like it had been hit by a sledge-hammer!. .We had to make an emergency landing in LGW with a descent through the busiest airspace in the country.. .When we got on the ground my FO said to me, 'thank God that happened in British airspace'.. .I had to agree....you guys were brilliant, thanks !

Thanks - I was the Supervisor in Terminal Control that day and I'll make sure your comments get passed to the controllers that dealt with you. Hope your no claims discount wasn't affected by the broken windscreen If you'd like a chat about the ATC aspects of it let me know.

I was in the tower at the time and had to spend 5 minutes arguing the toss with Servisair who were adamant that you couldn't come in because you had no replacement windshield or engineer!. .. .They said we had to send you EGBB and NOT to land at LGW.....! . .. .We were pleased to help, but it was you who got it down. Well Done.. .. .Muppit. .. .

Believe it or not, they wanted us to fly it back to BHX even though I could'nt see through the windshield !!

We declined to pass you Servisair's message as you descended through the London TMA - sounded like that was the last thing you'd want to hear!!

Don't you just love the 'tail wagging the dog syndrome' adopted by some handling agents.
