I'm curious to know what the opinion is of the foreign carriers that fly into Toronto. Compared to other large airports you fly internationally, how does Toronto compare operationally?

Flown into Toronto lots - charter A330. No problems, a few interesting runway changes but when you understand what the local arrangements are - no sweat.

Radar give you speeds, headings etc, I don't complain.

Wolfman - I'm curious too!

Javelin - The runway configurations and operation are unfortunately driven by the needs of the Terminal unit and not the Tower. You'll often find us on the 24s or 6s when the crosswind is almost at 25 knots even though we have cross parallels. This is due to the capacity hit that would ensue if we changed to the 33s or heaven forbid, the 15s which are very noise sensitive for departures.

The runway changes for arrivals seem bizzare to us in the Tower too! Terminal don't like doing cross-overs, but they still give them a try! Maybe 1 in 5 runway changes is smooth. The rest result in departure delays and can be a real pain in the rear.

Any more comments/questions, I'll be happy to help.
