PAX = passengers, aka SLF (Self-loading Freight)
or
PAX = peace in Latin
or
PAX = short for portable archive interchange - a method for archiving folders/files in Unix I believe.
Google also comes up with Private Automatic eXchange - no sure what that is :confused:

Often expanded to PABX, this stands for Private Automatic Branch eXchange.
The technical term for medium to large office telephone systems. Nowadays this is being changed to PBX as automatic used to be used to differentiate from PMBX the M meaning Manual. thing is there aren't many manual systems around anymore.
Hope this is of help

:mad: acronyms
Fortunately someone's set up www.acronymfinder.com (of course). It gives the following:
PAX Patuxent River Naval Air Station (Maryland)
PAX Paxon (Network)
PAX Penny-Arcade Exposition (video game convention)
PAX Personnel
PAX Portable Archive Exchange
PAX Private Automatic Exchange
PAX Profiling Agent for Exchange
PAX Programming, Administration and Execution System (US Army)
Didn't know PABX was shortened to PAX, obvious when you know... :rolleyes:
