Surabaya's Djuanda Airport temporarily closed . .. .JAKARTA (JP): The Djuanda Airport in Surabaya, the capital of East Java, was temporarily closed on Thursday when a plane belonging to Saudi Air lost a landing gear wheel, forcing it to make an emergency landing.. .. .No casualties were reported in the incident, which took place about 12:30 p.m. The flight was carrying a total of 449 people, El Shinta radio reported.. .. ."The flight contained people returning to Surabaya after performing Haj pilgrimage in Mecca," an airport official was quoted as saying by the radio.. .. .The incident caused the cancellation of dozens of flights from various airlines and routes, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.. .. ."We are still trying to move the plane from the runaway, so the airport can be reopened as soon as possible. The cause of the incident is still under investigation," the official said.. .. .As of 2:30 p.m., airport officials were still trying to move the plane.

Hi mutt,. .Sounds, from the POB that it was probably a Saudi B747-300, can you confirm!. .Seems like the Saudis' are not having to much luck of recent times, with that other (maybe) B747-300 'parked' at KUL, being stripped of everything useful, after it was written off in a taxiing accident recently!. .They have an airbag under the cockpit section, to hold it up, whilst they have stands all over, to remove all the external bits, the engines, of course, went long ago.. .I can't help but wonder why the 'driver', with only the inboard engines running (problem), didn't just simply select #4 ADP, or easier, select the #2 brakes, at his right kneecap, but I guess that's academic now, he probably doesn't have any kneecaps anymore!

Similar thing happened not long ago to a Flight West Fokker on Norfolk Island off the east coast of Australia. (I think it may have happened more than once). Either way, they were issued with a show cause notice by CASA not long after it happened.

Nice one, first 747 to go 'off road' since the QF one at Changi, or the Air France 744 that went skinny dipping in Tahiti(F-GITA at FAAA)- no pic, sorry.. .. .As good a demonstration as you'll ever see as to the advantages of travelling cattle class.

Flight Detent,. .. .It was a Saudi -300. With nothing out of the ordinary, the aircraft performed a normal landing, other aircraft reported smoke/fire from the right main gear. The aircraft was stopped on the runway, fire extingushed. All 4 tires on the right main had deflated.. .. .Not as exciting as the newspaper report <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> . .. .As for the KUL aircraft, do you really think that the dork in the left seat knew that there was an alternate brake system?. .. .Mutt. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

Anti Skid On, I think you'll find QF went off in BKK.. .. .Mutt the Saudi 743 was being taxied by maintenance.

Not only that, BA's Chelsea Rose (G-GC) went bush at Perth 22/01/00 when it went off the turning circle prior to take off and was stuck there for quite a while before they shifted it with heavy lifting gear. It didn't make the papers over here as nobody was hurt, just stuck inside the aircraft for a couple of hours. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="rolleyes.gif" />
