Recently had a quote for a straightforward £50K life cover over 23 years through Tesco (Norwich Union), which was around £10 per month for the mid-thirties wife and I.

They sent me a fairly sketchy aviation questionnaire which I completed with my 200 hours and 30 hours per year in a PFA Permit aeroplane but they've now decided they 'cannot accept me on normal terms' and require an extra £3.80 per month.

Couldn't find anything in a search of this forum, but can anyone suggest a more enlightened broker/insurer?

Try Sovereign on 0800 917 7206 - www.sovair.co.uk
They're a specialist aviation broker for PPl's etc.
I'm mid 30's and they got me got £150k life cover with L&G for £15 a month, covers me for up to 200 hours flying a year.
It was cheaper than my previously (non PPL cover) from my high street bank.

My life insurance is with Equitable :) :p and they don't charge me any extra. But then I didn't ask for cover for PFA permit aircraft.

Most life insurers allow private flying up to 50hrs/year. Some allow up to 100hrs.

The life insurers advertising in the back of the flying mags are selling what appear to be standard life policies, from insurers that allow the extra time.

According to my broker, one can negotiate.

All done and dusted over the phone with Sovreign for the princely sum of £9.62. Thanks PPruners!

To resurrect this thread - Tesco (Norwich Union) today offered me £150K for £23.85 or, with my 30 or so hours a year, £105 per month.

Think I'll try Sovereign.

I think you will find they are no more - maybe 'cos they were too cheap??

Try Traffords, or Scottish Provident (who only wanted 90p/month for my 70ish hours per year).

I have £600k with Legal & General for £68pm joint policy for myself and wife and no flying restrictions. I fly around 350hrs per year. I have another £600k arranged through Soveriegn when they were still trading which actually cost more at about £71 and that was taken out a couple of years ago!

The hardest part was the medicals, HIV and non smoker status rather than the flying, diving and other pastimes!

Haven't got it immediately to hand, but had a letter a few weeks back saying that Sovreign had now been taken over by Onrisk, www.onrisk.co.uk

Thanks all for your answers.

I got a letter this morning stating that the increase was due to my occupational rather than private flying.

I've challenged it and we'll see where we get but I'll give on-risk a go.

Thanks all.

Went to on-risk today, covered within a few hours for a reasonable premium and all of the questions made sense.
