We are all now aware that our new partners have embarked on a cost-cutting exercise, but I wonder if they actually fully understand the possible implications.

According to the LATCC grapevine, the delays caused by having insufficient staff to split Hurn West and Hurn East on Thursday morning cost the airlines (airlines in general, not just the Airline Group) about £250,000. On Friday morning an extra controller was persuaded to make an "additional attendance", costing NATS £830, and the Hurn-related delays were eliminated. It seems like a bargain!!!

However, are the Airline Group going to offset the extra costs for NATS for such initiatives, against their individual company savings? It may be a difficult set of sums to do, but it could result in NATS "saving" its additional £10 million or whatever, whilst the airlines lose untold millions as a result of the resultant delays.

Does anybody know if there is a plan, a policy, a directive, or even a discussion on the subject?
