Can the people in the know give me a clear precise reason of why SOPs are important....
Basically I understand that in a large company when flying with many different people SOPs provide a framework of rules and procedures so that a crew can immediately start working as a team and reducing any ambiguity which might arise during the operation......ok so that said..what is a good SOP as an example..?
Also, if something is not covered in the SOPs is it then upto good CRM to fill the gap?
Is there an SOP for nearly every situation of a flight?
I have never worked with SOPs before and might be in a situation to do so....

There's 2 very good threads running on the question that you pose in the Safety CRM and QA forum Xshongololo, I think that you'll find most of what you seek there. And in the archives, you'll find much much more.

Happy hunting,
