Just dug out the following from Bloomberg:

Japan Airlines Must Improve Aircraft Maintenance, Ministry Says
October 18, 2004 21:39 EDT -- Japan Airlines Corp., the country's largest air carrier, said it has been warned by the transport ministry that it must improve the maintenance of its aircraft, following a malfunction in July.

No info on JAL or Ministry site. Anyone know what its about??

Cheers

According to JAL, this is connected to an incident in which one of their cargo aircraft lost a part.

I believe they (B747F) lost a flap fairing enroute from NRT to ANC. Found it missing in ANC. Blamed on improper Maint. during a scheduled inspection. Recently JAL has been out-sourcing a lot of their maint. Guess it isn't always up to par although working for this company I find the aircraft and the maint. staff to be top notch. Actually some of the best maintained jets I have ever flown. :ok:

JTA (Japan Transocean Airways) also has had big problem with maintainance not so long a go because of using parts that should not be used.
JCAB discovered these problems on routine check of JTA.
Also some JTA crew does not reporting engine over temps.
JTA is JAL B737 operator subsidary, base in Okinawa.
Okinawa is major maintainance base for JAL 737.
