To whoever was working Manchester Approach on Saturday 23rd June 2001 at 1435Z.
Trying to get into Barton routing down the ship canal in an R22 which had developed a tendency to burn oil. Oil Light comes on just as someone at Barton develops a stuck PTT.
I can hear Barton, no one can hear me.
(Now I realise why I always carry a Light signal decode in the pocket of my Kneeboard)
A quick call to a busy Approach controller at Manchester and I had her full attention she had telephoned Barton and informed them of our impending silent / urgent arrival within seconds.
As it turns out nothing wrong with the Robbie that 2 quarts of Oil and a chat with the engineers didn't sort out.
Whoever you are, thank you for doing what you guys do best.
Cheers
