View Full Version : Protected airspace for procedure turns

I would be grateful if someone would tell me how the volume of airspace to be protected for aeroplanes making full procedure turns is determined. I have diagrams &c, but the question has arisen as to whether the shape and size of this space is determined by the a/c category.
Is this an ICAO standard or nationally determined?
Thanks

approach airspace:
5 miles in front of the FAF
16 miles behind the FAF
4 miles on the non PT side of the final app. course
8 miles on the PT side of final approach course
add 2 miles to all figures if the PT is above 6000ASL
A departure using the same runway cannot turn more then 90deg. towards the PT side of the App. and 135 deg. to the non-PT side

crystal clear thanks.
I assume these distances hold for any approach speed flown.
Are these figures international or a national standard?

You are correct about the speeds.
I can only speak for Canadaian standards.

It's all in ICAO PANS-OPS, can't remember the doc number off hand, it's late! :)
