Serco's air traffic cheer....
SERCO today took a step closer to taking operational control of British air traffic control when Trade Secretary Stephen Byers said there are no outstanding anti-competition hurdles for the outsourcing group to clear.
Byers said the Office of Fair Trading had accepted undertakings from Serco about training of air traffic controllers, in which it has an effective monopoly.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott must decide whether to sell 46% of National Air Traffic Services to Serco or to its rival bidder made up of the major British airlines.
