Just got this in the email from a Greek ATC!

I thought some of you might like to know that the two greek controllers (LGTS Approach) who were on duty the night (Dec 1998) that a AeroSweet Yak40 had CFIT near mount Olympus, were last week sentenced to the maximum (!) penalty of 5 years in gaol!
The interesting part is that the D.A. requested that each ATCO received 22 months for each casualty, making a grand total of around 150 years each!!
Needless to say, both have appealed to a higher court and await for the final verdict!
You might like to know that both the HCAA officials AND the company's experts had concluded that the CFIT was due to pilot's misorientation.
Relatives of the victims said they were NOT satisfied with the penalty.....
