Hi,

I am looking to insure my C172. Is there a list of what the
insurance liability requirements are for different airports in
the UK? Ireland? France? Germany? Netherlands?

I am trying to choose between UKP 1M liability and UKP 3M
liability. I know some airports (eg Leeds/Bradford) require
more than 1M.

If you even have any general info on what the liability
requirements are that would help, esp. info on what they
are in the rest of Europe.

Thanks for your help,
Carl.

The various flight guides (e.g. AFE VFR Flight Guide) generally list insurance requirements, especially if they are unusual. If you plan to use MOD airfields get a supplement for those, so you can avoid paying the insurance charge (but you need to tell them you have cover when getting PPR, or they will charge you anyway). E.g. the plane I fly has 3m general cover, but 7.5m for MOD (as far as I remember).

I think you are approaching this from the wrong angle IMHO.

Presumably the first question to answer is, in the event of an accident in an aircraft carrying upto 4 people, what is the potential size of third party claim.

In this increasingly litigious world, £5M would not be inappropriate, although many people carry far less.

The marginal cost of another £1M third party cover is relatively low for the peace of mind it brings.

More directly related to your question, £3M will satisfy the vast majority of large airports that you will be flying into across Europe. Where there are specific requirements such as in Denmark, Germany and on RAF airfields, you'll find that many of the policies on offer provide this cover as part and parcel of the overall plan.
