Just heard on radio about bags falling out of the hold of an Eastern Airways flight from Leeds to Aberdeen whilst at 12000ft.

The offending hold door opened "due to turbulance"....

Must have been a bit wild up there if thats the case (no pun intended). Anyone know any other details?

The incident happened on the 18th of August. A 15 kg suitcase fell out of a Jetstream 31 (reg G-BYRA) in flight. News sources are also quoting recurrent problems with cargo doors on this type. Any truth in that?

From today's Travel Mole
Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad Ltd

The Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation after a
suitcase reportedly fell from a commercial flight at an altitude
of 12,000 feet.

According to The Scotsman website, the suitcase fell from the
baggage pos of an Eastern Airways plane on 18 August, as it
was travelling between Leeds/Bradford and Aberdeen airports.
The 18-seater plane was reportedly carrying five passengers and
three crew on the flight.

A spokesman reportedly stated that the plane had been checked
prior to take-off, adding: “On the approach to Aberdeen, at a
height of approximately 12,000 feet, the aircraft passed through
turbulence. A pod door indication light came on.

"On arrival into Aberdeen, it was discovered that one item of
baggage could not be located and after normal checks, we
concluded that the item had been lost from the hold.”
