Just wandering what the nature of the work was that means 24R/06L has to be closed at night-time?

I live almost directly under the flightpath for the 'new' runway at the 24 end, and I have to say that noise levels last night were pretty much normal to my ears... don't know what it was like in Eastern Heald Green though ;)

Cheers

I would have thought that noise would be slightly less since the aircraft will be about 300 feet higher approaching 24L.

We had an unscheduled practice run last Wednesday evening at about 2100 when a Citation blocked 24R having burst tyres on landing. It was an interesting 45 minutes!

After the last 3 departures were switched from 24R to 24L and had departed, the first 5 aircraft landed on 24L, the first 4 went to the loop and held and after the last one landed they all backtracked.

Since this isn't the best option and there were no immediate departures, we switched to 06R for arrivals.

Most fun I've had in the tower in ages. :D

The crews took their delays in great spirits and the first BA crew that landed to wait in the loop were extremely helpful both to ATC and following crews with their tips and observations. Thanks again lads! :)

BTW the 06L/24R touchdown areas are being resurfaced in small nighlty sections to enable daytime ops to be unaffected.

(Edited for typos)

Glad to see that things are still keeping you smiling and amused - stopped any monotany setting in...not that you had much of a chance of that the other month!

Cheers

PS - Did you see that BRAL are introducing a MAN/ZRH with the winter schedule?
