All US-bound planes from Russia are under suspicion - 09/03/2004 12:03

US authorities toughen security on US-bound passenger flightd from Russia

The US department of transportation issued a special set of instructions to enable a more thorough baggage and passenger screening upon their arrival to the United States.

Major emphases will be made on cynologists with specially trained dogs. Passenger flights of ?Aeroflot¦ and ?Delta¦ airlines will be screened the most. In addition, American authorities have asked Russia to strengthen security in Moscow International Airport ?Sheremetyevo¦.

Such toughening of security measures has to do with the recent terrorist acts aboard two planes Tu-134 and Tu-154 on the Russian territory.

I wonder how the Americans would have felt, immediately post-9/11, if the Russian authorities, instead of expressing sympathy (as they did) had instead started put out press releases that American security was obviously not good enough and they were going to do special screening of all arriving passengers from the US.

Oh, and they were also telling the Americans to beef up security at Boston airport.

I think we would have agreed with them. I hope every country tightened up. Lord knows we got paranoid about our own flights; why not share it with the world.

I suppose you're pointing out our xenophobic, self-absorbed nature. Judging from your post, I think I can guess from whence it came....

Hmmm.....interesting doctrine from the Yanks, especially seeing as 22,600 aircraft a month fly into NYC airports with unscreened cargo in the hold.

Oh, and it ain't all comin' from "overseas" either.....!
