Southhamton owners told to quit

04 - 09 - 2004

The management at Southampton Airport has gone back on a deal struck with private owners earlier this year and given them notice to leave by the end of October.

The backtracking has been blamed on a lack of long term car parking. Over a dozen pilots and four aircraft are affected by the latest squeeze on private flying from UK regional airports.

The aircraft owners spent £16,000 laying plastic reinforcement on an area of grass designated for long term GA parking which the airport has promised to refund.

Flying training will continue with the two flying schools unaffected.

Seems like they really don't want GA there at all.

Last time I went in was to collect a mate who had flown in from Ibiza. I found it courteous, professional and very friendly towards GA.

(They werent so keen on my mate legging it direct from the Flybe plane across to my PA28 to greet me!)

There's space just up the M3 at Popham chaps, £60/mth for a private owner, a bit more for syndicates (not sure I understand the formula, but I know there is one).

Only pain is no night lighting.
