Hi all. Who and how do pilot log books get filled in, and do they get checked by anyone "in authority"? ie let's say a F/O flies one leg, does the Cpt need to check it over, or does it go to the company offices for such things?? Also, can it be done via ACARS, into an electronic company log? I know certain companies let their crew announce who is flying via ACARS, for minimum hours and such.
Cheers,
LJ.

lump jockey,

hi,

it is very easy, the logbook is kept up to date by the pilots themselves. if you fill it in after every flight yourney it is a simple matter, the longer you wait & the more you fly, it then might become a daunting task. the logbook is an official document which is endorset by the checkairman &/or the aviation authorities every 6 months or so after yr licence renewal or any other licence related upgrade, new type rating, first officer becoming captain(a major upgrading) etc. ...

there are companies who keep an electronic record of the flighttimes of their crews for admin & roster duties.
acars is only for operational reasons, t/o & landing times for example are transmitted through the triggering of the main gear squad switches.
