View Full Version : Should this have been NOTAM'd?

Went for a quick flight on Wednesday evening to take someone up from work. We were going to fly over Hastings (his parent's house) but didn't get that far due to showers - however they later said that there was quite a bit of fast jet activity along the coast, probably rehearsing for the Airbourne 2004 airshow at the weekend. Should there have been a NOTAM for this, or did I just miss it? I'm fairly confident I would have spotted other traffic as the visibility was very good, but I would probably have kept clear of the area had I known about this in the first place.

It is notamed; if you e.g. do a narrow route briefing on ais.org from Seaford to Lydd it will come up. The notam also gives the reference to an AIC (also available from ais.org) which shows the TRA graphically.

I did do a narrow route brief including LYD to SFD and I'm sure it wasn't listed, presumably because the validity dates are 12-15 Aug and my briefing was for 11th Aug.

Thanks Evo for providing the output - I can't check here at work because of firewalls.

The same happens at most airshows and the jets will normally be working the local frequency or will be on 124.6

I had a cracking view of a Tornado do its thang over the Thames the day before Southend airshow. Southend were warning all traffic on FIS and we stayed clear.

Someone was MOR'ed for infringing the TRA yesterday, the aircraft was tracked and identification was confirmed. Someone will be getting a nasty letter in a few weeks but they don't kow it yet! Doh!

The AIC Supplements are on line requiring a simple and free registration with e-mail back password.

Once in you have access have a look at the Mauve SI's which give details of all temporary airspace restrictions.

Can't remember the number for Eastbourne but things like Silverstone and Royal Flypasts are in there too.

Just a thought

Sir George Cayley,

AICs and Supplements are not the same.

Mauve AICs are not Statutory Instruments, they are a method of bringing the SI to peoples attention.

Should you sir wish to have coachman aerotowed in one of your devices I will happilly oblige

I remain yours
