Anyone got any ideas for third-party software to interface a computer with my Garmin 196?
The purpose would be (1) to more easily input waypoints and routes; (2) to backup waypoints and routes in case of system failure.

Direct input of lots of data into the GPS unit is very time-consuming with no keyboard, someone must have a better way ........?

Try http://www.gpsu.co.uk/ . If that doesn't help, a quick google (http://www.google.co.uk) will produce lots of hits!!!

I have been using Easy GPS (http://www.easygps.com/) for some time, works well.

Thanks for the fast response guys, I will try these out.

Then all I will need is a pre-made database of VRPs etc. !
