North Denes, Great Yarmouth

Hi folks,

Does anyone have any information on North Denes airfield near Great Yarmouth please? Done a search on the 'net and have found very little. Would like to know whether it's a grass strip, RT freq, landing fee's, availabilty of refreshments etc.....

Believe it to be a private heli pad for N Sea traffic operated by one of the large rotary companies.

Don't think that you'd be allowed in.

Beccles and Seething quite close to Yarmouth

Just to qualify S & S remarks, North Denes (EGSD) is indeed a privately operated heliport, operated by Scotia Helicopters.

Although it has a grass runway (approx 400m long), it's strictly helis only, although I don't think they have any problems with accepting visiting rotary traffic on a PPR basis.

If you really wanted to visit Gt Yarmouth, (and believe it or not some people do!, god knows why though...), Norwich is your best bet for a regular bus service from the airport or a short ride to the railway station and then regular train service to Yarmouth.

Otherwise it's an expensive taxi fare from Norwich, Seething or Beccles.

Just to repeat what others have said. Denes is a private heli field which is not open to visiting f/w (other than a/c flown by rotary pilots from Denes). Not particularly keen on visiting rotary either although they are happier with larger business traffic than private R22 visitors (and seem happy to let the military in).

The options are as mentioned plus Ludham which is a little closer than Beccles or Seething but short, with hangar on the end of the strip, and often unmanned.

Jockeys visiting for Yarmouth races have used all three airfields (Ludham, Seething, Beccles)
