Well two actually...

First is if you're going for the weekend, book a room in advance.

If you don't, the second may be of some use...

We went to Deauville last weekend. Was well planned from a flying point of view. Never thought there would be a problem getting a room!

Got in a taxi, a v. smart new Mercedes with driver in pin-stripe suit and tie, and asked to be taken to a hotel, somewhere cheapish. Taxi driver must have made a dozen phone calls to hotels and to the tourist information centres of Deauville, Trouville and Honfleur. Everywhere full. He eventually found us rooms in Lisieux 40kms to the south and took us there charging only the meter and not for the calls he made.

Transpired that he lived not far from Lisieux and that he would be passing near the hotel at around 09:45 in the morning and offered to take us to Deauville or Trouville free of charge which he duly did.

Impressed by his service, we arranged for him to take us back to the airport that afternoon. Noting our baggage, he arranged to look after it for us so that we did not need to lug it around.

All in all, our p*ss poor planning was saved by this guy. His name is Olivier Martin, Taxi Marine Deauville, +33 07 73 83 89.

ps. Yes, I know the rules re advertising, but I feel this guy's worth mentioning.
