View Full Version : Language requirements for pax briefings?

Had a bit of a disagreement with my check purser last time round, so would like to clear up the following before the next run.
Any help much appreciated.

It is standard procedure with us to do the Passenger flight safety briefings on the 737 in 2 languages. Usually our native language and the language spoken by the majority of pax.

To get as many pax as possible to actually watch the briefing, I preface it with some to the point comments about accident survival, a joke sometimes and make the briefing itself short, sharp and in English only.

I cover all the points mentioned in the company manual, but only in English. At my latest check, the check purser claimed that this was not only against company policy, but also against the law. No as far as I can understand, we are bound by JAR-OPS.
So I've just had a good read of JAR-OPS 1 and found section JAR–OPS 1.285 Passenger briefing.
It says nothing about language.

Does anyone know if language gets stipulated anywhere, and if so, where I could find it?
