Hello all...

Just arrived into LHR on the EI174 today only to have to hold for over 50mins....Skipper said it was due to the runway being closed. Iv also been pulled off avail for a trip ex LGW tomorrow due to operational problems which i presume is linked to this thing today! Can anyone shed any light????

Cheers!

27R was shut for about an hour whilst debris from a burst tyre was cleared and then inspection. Not sure who's.

Indeed it was as a result of some debris 300m from touchdown of 27R. 2 aircraft on final approach were told about it by the tower and elected to continue approach and land safely, a Korean 747 decided to go around. This was then followed by a Midland (I think) F100, then we started switching to 27L.

Single runway operations give 6 mile gaps to the tower so that will be why you had to hold for so long - the average delay on the screen was showing as 62 minutes. When the runway reopened, Tower allowed TEAM operations whereby landing 27L and 27R to clear the backlog. All was back to normal again by around 1830 local.

We observed the debris, with some large parts, spread all over the underrun of 27R during landing (70-80 feet) at approx 1440Z.
It did not look like any tire parts, and we reported it to GND as more cardboard-like (but heavier obviously).
