What a great show the RIAT but on at Fairford last weekend.

Drove there with no ques returned at 7pm no ques great organisation. Great show especially the D-Day tribute.

Best Red Arrows display ever, and the Midnight hawks from Finland closest formation in Hawks 1st time in UK heart stopping.

Hi Peeking,

Agree it was an excellent show. Interested to hear what time you got to the show by road and in what direction you came from? I visited via the BA 747 which is great fun but you end up missing too much of the show. Next year I'm planning to go by car but need to know when's best to arrive???

Any hints gratefully received, last time I drove there it was a nightmare! (hence the 747 for the past 2 years).

Thanks,

WB

P.S. Did the Jumbo look good when we departed (downwind!)??

Took some advice from one of our Peeking Group and approached Fairford from the North, left the M4 at Junction 13 and drove to Wantage then through to Lechlade and popped into the RED Carpark at 11am not one que in sight.

Left same route but diverted via Harwell ( first time I've seen it up close from the ground ) joined M4 at Newbury same story.

PS Jumbo took off as we started browsing the stalls for some last min bargins. Looked great as it took off downwind, wondered who was in it!

Drove into Riat using the Blue route Sat & Sun left Swindon around 08:15 and Arrived on site around 09:10 including passing through security. First time we've driven in usually go by Motorcycle. Left at the end of the Airshow both days Sat straight out onto 419 no problem, home by about 19:30 Sunday left at the end of the Airshow and were routed towards Highworth there must have been a problem on the 419. We diverged from the directed route and cut across to Highworth and home shortly after 20:00.

This year we splashed out on tickets for the Jubilee gardens. Deckchairs and attended toilets, bliss. The foods a bit pricey but you don't have to queue as long and you can still see the show whilst your doing it.

The display was somewhat under stated this year, a lot of people left as soon as the Red Arrows had finished. Which as far as I was concerned meant they missed the best part of the day. The D day memorial display was extremely well done both stirring and poignant, the commentary was informative without being intrusive and the flying excellent. A big thank you to all involved.

P S Does anyone know what the problem with the Avenger U/C on Sunday was he didn’t seem to be able to fully retract one leg.

PPS Peking Duck I see Harwell up close far too often. There's not much of it left to see now. Mind you the new Diamond building is going to be quite impressive when its finished.
