I thought it would be interesting to find out what flying schools are paying their instructors in UK (or abroad). The way an instructor is paid also varies from a fixed annual salary down to payment for 'airborne' time only. If anyone cares to respond, please include
* Your flight qualifications/ratings
* The school name
* The rate
* Whether this is per hour, per hour (flying) per hour (airborne) etc.
* Any extra you get (groundschool, for example)

For starters here are my details:
ATPL/IR QFI with Aerobatic, Night and Instrument Instructor
HFS
£10 per flying hour (no attendance allowance)
No ground school rate

Im a AFI 2 years exp.BCPL and working at East Herts Flying School,Panshanger. I've got 1700 hrs.I get a salary of £12,500 but before bartering for that I got £10/hr and £10/day. It's lot's of hours(700) a year.
A friend of mine has just got a job at OATS on a salary of £20,000 plus PRP.They want a CPL/IR 1000 instructional hrs.Bonding is 1 yr.I've passed my ATPL written and Perf A and I am taking my I/R in March, so I might apply to OATS if the airline job front is'nt forthcoming. Maybe if I work at OATS for a while I could get a jet job after? If anybody wants a job at Panshanger, drop me a note.

When I was instucting in Australia for an Aero Club who paid award per hour (even if not award hours, ie minimum 4 per day) as a new Grade three I was paid ~$28 up to grade two at ~$35 ?

No pay for ground instruction, associated with a lesson, no extras.

(This was in 1990, so memory may be off by a dollar or two)

A friend of mine works for Southern Air at shoreham for £17 per hour on singles and £22 per hour on Multi. I think his retainer is £100 per week. This is the best pay I've heard of for a PPL instructor.
Unfortunately Shoreham is inconvenient for me or I'd be asking for a job!
