Out of interest, how does your airline determine which pilots will fly on a new aircraft which enter service in the airline with the intention of periodically replacing an older fleet (e.g. Swissair MD11 being replaced by A343). Is there any pattern or reason for converting some pilots quicker than others on2 a new fleet, and also out of interest, what is the shortest time you know of a pilot being trained on a new aircraft by his company and than him retiring ?
Thx !

Isn't a seniority thing?

New planes, new bids, highest seniority wins, everyone moves up.

Since it's the seniors that move up, it's most likely they were going to retire soon/shortly too..

Line instructors get qualified first and fly the first few aircraft then seniority rules.

But, you never want to be the first few to bid a new aircraft or be the last to bid off a dying breed.TC
