Before someone starts ranting, this question has nothing to do with tax relief.
What I was wondering is whether it was still possible to get issued with an NVQ certificate, or has this qualification has vanished without a trace. I know it is of no benifit to getting a job flying, but it would be useful to have something to show for the work that goes into an ATPL, that would be recognised outside the industry.
I have tried the obvious channels, but no one seems to know anything about it, and a lot never knew it existed in the first place.
Any ideas?

I think that you are probably too late to complete this, as I seem to recall that there was a cut-off date.

The scheme was run for some years by the Avaition Training Association (ATA):
www.aviation-training.org

The ATA ceased in 2003 and its successers can be found on:
www.ssda.org.uk

Those 2 websites give various telephone numbers and other links that might be worth following if you want to see if you can complete the NVQ

Good luck

I have just dug out my original (and empty), 'Piloting Transport Aircraft' candidate’s logbook for the old NVQ.

It can best be described as over-complicated, cumbersome duplication, resulting in a worthless endorsement of your ATPL.

Allegedly only one candidate completed the qualification and I think it is fair to say that almost everyone who registered did so to take advantage of the tax relief...and rightly so!

The same level of tax relief and qualification was, and still is available to trainee lorry drivers etc. However, aviation no longer qualifies. Too many PPL's registering with no intention of completing the course, was one of the reasons given at the time.

The NVQ as it stood, would have done nothing to raise the status of commercial pilots above that of hairdressers in the eyes of the outside World. As a result very few of us got past the stage of filling in our names on the manual.

If it has been resurrected, I wouldn't bother if I were you (unless you can gain tax savings. Your ATPL says more than enough.
