View Full Version : UK JAR Flight Examiner Needed!

Left Wing Down

My UK PPL (single engine, Group A - now UK JAR PPL) is due to expire on the 17th July. I've just been relocated by my company to the East Bay area of California (near San Francisco) and since I haven't managed to do the minimum hours required, I need to find a UK qualified examiner who can give me a flight test instead. It's highly unlikely that I'll be back in the UK before the expiry date so I need to find someone fairly local.

I've already got the FAA certificate to let me fly in the US as long as my UK PPL is valid, but trying to track down an examiner through AOPA (UK & US), CAA/FAA and word of mouth at the local field (Livermore) hasn't been successful. I'm hoping that someone on PPRuNe will know someone who knows someone who might be able to help. Even a suitably qualified UK airline pilot on a stop-over in San Francisco or Los Angeles.

I'd really appreciate any help you could provide.

And yes, I know I should never have let it get this close to the wire, such is life.

No worries

If the JAA PPL lapses it can be renewed with
a 1 hour check ride with a JAR PPL examiner
up to 5 years ..

Thanks for that link RVR800 I have just made friends with a CAA authorised instructor at my local flying club to ensure that I am flying legally!! Seems that FAA instructors don't count as "authorised" - I didn't know that!!

Left wing down,

Anglo American in San Diego (Gillespie Field), have a UK qualified examiner on staff. www.flyaaa.com (http://www.flyaaa.com) for more info.

It's about a 4 hour flight from San Francisco in a PA28.
