Six in court after aircraft chase

The six-seater plane was seized pending further inquiries
Six people have appeared before magistrates charged with illegal immigrant smuggling in Kent.
The group, five from London and one from Surrey, are accused of plotting to smuggle illegal immigrants into the UK.

They were arrested after a Piper PA-32-300 Cherokee six-seater aircraft was stopped at Headcorn Aerodrome on Friday.

All six were committed for trial at Maidstone Crown Court - three were remanded in custody and three bailed.

The pilot of the aircraft, IT consultant Wyatt Anderson, 46, of London Road, Camberley, Surrey, made an application for bail as he had hoped to attend his daughter's university graduation ceremony on Tuesday, but his application was refused.

He is accused of plotting to smuggle illegal immigrants into the UK by light plane.

He was remanded in custody alongside Mensur Hassan, 32, of Daubeney Road, Stoke Newington, north London, and Anthony Davies, 41, of Chalfont Road, Lower Edmonton, north London.

Davies's wife Jeanette, 40, also of Chalfont Road, Lower Edmonton, was granted unconditional bail along with Isa Baskaya, 45, of Bemerton Street, Islington, north London.

Indat Oztas, 38, of Carleton Road, Hornsey, north London, was given conditional bail.

All six are due to appear at crown court on 12 July.

Hope it doesn't make life more difficult for GA flights to France / Ireland etc. :*
