Hi all!

I'm thinking about buying a Handheld GPS, and had a little look at the Garmin 196 but it would be great if it had a color display like the new Garmin 296, but the price on the 296 model is a little high taken my bankacount in mind...(1116£ at transair :( ), but then i noticed Garmin also have made a Maritime version called Garmin 276C..

http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap276c/

Retailed price 746$... (Must say a lot cheaper)
It looks exactly the same as the 296 and also has a 256 coler display.

Does anyone have any experience with the 276C model?.. is it the same as the Garmin 196 but just with the color display.

Any coment is welcome

But isn't it the 276C is for Marine use only? While the 296 is capable for Aviation, Car and Marine.

I have been considering purchasing one as well, but it cost $2300 Canadian here. I am considering renting a GPS moving map equiped, one of 2 2000 model year 182s for my x-country trips instead of paying two and a half grand for GPS.

But isn't it the 276C is for Marine use only?

The specification says its for marine and Automobile use, but i was wondering if it could be used for Aviation also with the right software installed ?

I'm watching iPaq's on ebay atm. Quite fancy one of those, but I've no idea what model to buy etc.

Cue: anyone with an iPaq, can you recommend what to buy? Which GPS unit, software etc. I'm quite likely to use it in the car as well.

Cheers

the 276 does not support aviation use. It is designed to be used for maritime use only with a sounder and Garmin "blue charts".

It will not take an aviation database but may take a standard datacard with base map software.

Thanks bose-x for your reply,

Too bad :{ It would have been nice (and cheaper) if the 276C could be used instead.
