Hi,

I've had several people message me asking what to expect at a Virgin Atlantic interview so here's what happend to me when I had my interview on 10th June.

So here goes...

The first thing to say is that surprisingly it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, so you really can just relax and enjoy the day.

Essentially the day is slpit in two with the morning being a group interview scenario, and the afternoon being reserved for one to one interviews with those that make it past the earlier stages.

We all arrived at the Virgin Flight Centre (usually the interviews are held at Virgin Atlantic's head office) at similar times and were taken to the staff canteen. We were told just to talk to one another until we get taken to one of the training rooms. After about 20mins 3 senior cabin crew (who were also the assessors) escorted us to a training room. When we got to the room they introduced themselves and then explained a bit about how the day would work (They also explained that there is NO set amount of people that will go through to the next stage. It could be all of us, it could be no one!!).

We sat in a semi circle around the room and they kicked off with an ice breaker which in our case bagan by us in turn introducing ourselves and explaining what we did in terms of employment.

Next they let us sit down again and gave each person a card with some typed text on it. Basically each card provided a bit of info about Virgin Atlantic's operations. Each person then had to read their card in turn, providing the assessors with an opportunity to see that you can actually read, how you cope reading to a large-ish group of people and giving some basic info to the group.

Next they spit the group in two and provide you with a scenario. Each group represents a team of cabin crew, whose plane has been grounded on an Island due to bad weather. They explain that you will be grounded for the next 8 hours and that you have to entertain the passangers during this time. The in flight entertainments system is off line and no one may leave the aircraft.

They then give each group a pack of about 10 cards each of which has a picture of a different objact on it. Each group is then given 15 minutes to consider what thay could utilise each object for i.e how can you use it to entertain people.

While this exercise is being carried out, each candidate is pulled out of the group and asked by one of the senior cabin crew "why do you want to become a member of Virgin Atlantic air cabin crew?".....A VERY important question!!

Meanwhile, the other two senior cabin crew are walking round the room assessing and making notes on how each candidate interacts.

Finally each group has to present their planned entertainment programme to the other group, who now adopt the role of passengers.

At the end of that exercise you get to relax for a bit while they talk you through the life of a cabin crew member, covering things such as working hours/patterns, wages and annual leave arrangements. They also give an example of a typical working day. Then they give each person the opportunity to ask questions.

They then thanked us for attending and explained that they were now going to make "some decisions". Everyone was then sent out of the room and left to sit around in the canteen for 20 minutes or so.

After a half hour or so the 3 senior cabin crew came down stairs and again escorted us to the training room. There was a fourth senior cabin crew member then and she to thanked us for our time. Eventually they explained they were going to read out some names and that they'd like those candidates to leave the room....

Five names were read out. Mine was one of them. I have to say I was so incredibly nervous and I had no idea what to expect.

We were then told that we had been successful and had made it to the next stage. Unfortunately though, the other 11 candidates were sent home..

Congratualtions if u make it this far because competition is tough, however don't be disheartend as it is just as hard to get an interview in the first place.

If you make it this far you are then required to sit a Maths and English test. Both of which are timed. The English test is more to do with memory, you are given a page of text to read. AFte 2minutes the page is taken away and you are required to tick correct boxes relating to the text you have just read.

For the maths test you are required to answer 12 questions in 10 minutes. The questions cover muliplication division, addition and subtraction, and you are required to get six out of 12 correct.

The five of us were then told if we had passed the tests. If you are successful (which all 5 of us were) you are congratualted and told you are going to attend the final 3 on 1 interview and are given a time to return later that afternoon.

You then have to fill out the necessary security forms so you can obtain an airside pass so that you can work in the airport and onboard the aircraft.

About 2 hours later we each had our interviews. Quite intense but I still enjoyed it. One senior cabin crew is asking the questions, while the other two are writing down your every comment and move.

At the end of the interview you are thanked for your time and told you will be informed as whether or not you have been successful in gaining a job within 7-10 days.

Four days later Virgin Atlantic phoned me and offered me the job! It still hasn't sunk in. I think I'm so surprised beacuse I was the youngest one there and one of the only ones not to have any cabin crew experience.

I start my 6 weeks training on 12th July... So wish me luck!

I REALLY hope this is of some use to everyone attending a Virgin Atlantic interview. Let me know how you get on.

Good luck everyone!! Hope to see you onboard soon!:ok:

I can almost guarentee that this interview process changes from course to course...

I am unsure about whether this is a good thing to do.

If you are the right person you will get the job. Simple...

No need to practice before hand about all the activities and come across all false. Just take all interviews and questions in your stride. If you show confidence and a willing to get it right, they will notice...

Congratulations on getting the job hopefully we get to meet somewhere at work.

However if someone was doing the same job as me "practiced" model answer questions, then I would be very pissed off because I put all my heart and soul into my interview and I got the job from my own hard work. Not through reading how its done over the internet....

I have heard that the pay for CC can be as low as £1000 per month.

Check: gumtree.com under travel and overseas jobs for 14 Otober they are always advertising on there.

Does anybody know, how long it takes for them to get back to you, after you've sent them the app form???

And how many male flight attendants do actually work for them, and what's their "preference for male F/A wannabes"??'

Hi Clubworld
Definitley apply 2 Virgin. Trips are normally 1
nighters if u do an east coast US trip & 2 nighters
if u do a west coast trip although there are longer
trips eg. Vegas & Capetown.Sydney trips also
starting in Dec which i think is gonna be 9 days
long.Wages not as good as some airlines but
also not as bad as some make out.(coming from
bmed though u might notice a drop as i hear that
your wages are quite good?!) At Virgin your
allowances are given 2 u when u get downroute
so its really up 2 u if u want 2 blow all your cash
or save some! I would say GO FOR IT! You
would have a fab time!! PM me if u want 2 know
anything else

lol x

srs what?
10th Nov 2004, 01:26
Sydney trips also
starting in Dec which i think is gonna be 9 days long.

2 nights in Hong Kong, 1 night in Sydney and another 2 nights in Hong Kong. Doesn't exactly give you much time on the ground in Oz.

exmax
10th Nov 2004, 11:30
I think BA crew get about the same layover times when they do a trip to Oz, 2 full nights in either BKK or SIN then one full night in SYD/MEL.

OzzieO
10th Nov 2004, 13:21
exmax your right our (BA) MEL/SYD stopovers are all one night now. You get into OZZ in the early hours like 5am and then leave the following day in the afternoon.

All the OZZ trips go via Singapore or Bangkok. I did the 9 day BKK/SYD this year and its really tiring. The good thing is though when you get back to Bangkok you get two local nights rest so your relaxed for the trip back to London.

Congratulations on your recent job offer!!! It must feel great to have gone through that tough process and come away from it with such a positive result. Good on you.
I have an interview with Virginblue in AUS on the 25th which I am really nervous about but I can now imagine what I am in for!
Good luck in training and your career!

Clubworld...

Basically, further to Cosmic Girl's reply, the average take home for Virgin per month is about £1,400 given basic pay plus allowances downroute.

Activities downroute depends on the crew and range from being boring and not leaving your room - trip up the Empire State Building after some Bloomingdales shopping - Laying on a beach for a 3 night St Lucia - Partying hard on a 5 night Vegas. Most trips include a serious drinking session on the night of arrival, even if it's a one night east coast US. You can't beat it.

They're expanding liek never before so apply apply apply!

Clubworld..

I worked for Virgin for about a year and did enjoy my time there. They have an image of bitchiness but i found it very friendly and relaxed.

Money wise, I will have to disagree with the above. I rarely took home over £1100. Infact, only once. My friend has been there now for two years and she still struggles on the money and she left bmi. However, she is now doing less work than bmi.

The trips are good. some sociable and others not. South Africa is a fab trip. Not good money but you'll have a fantastic time. I NEVER got sick of NY. The Caribbean are good trips but compared to the prices there, the money isn't great. Hong Kong is fantastic and one of the best places I'd ever been too. Thats very socaible too. Good luck with it all. Any further info just message me.

Dear srs what ? Sorry i wasnt a bit more specific when replying to clubworld about the trips virgin do! Yes i said that we are starting trips to sydney in Dec & that the trip i think will be 9 days long but i didnt actually specify that you would be in oz for the whole time did i?I was merely explaining that you can do trips that are not just bullets.Next time i shall try & explain myself a bit clearer.Anyway,1 night in Sydney is still better than a kick in the teeth isnt it?

Hi everyone,

Was wondering if anyone could help me, i would really appreciate it. I have an interiew for Virgin Atlantic next week. I've had one interview with them before and blew it on the 2 on 1 interview. Does anyone who's had a 2 on 1 interview at virgin know what the questions are likely to be or what kind of questions they may ask me? I am cabin crew at the moment so presume it may be related to that??

Thanks very much

Not too sure what the c/c interviews are like, but all the other Virgin interviews seem to favour scenario questions based on a "Tell me about a situation when....." etc etc.

Things like when you have had a disagreement with someone in authority, or had to comply with a procedure you didn't agree with - stuff like that.

It's all fairly straight forward stuff, that you will have done at one time or another, it's just a matter of remembering it and twisting the words to make yourself sound good.

Good luck for your interview, try not to be too nervous, the recruitment team are a bunch of nice people and they try to make the day as relaxed and light hearted as is possible.

Some questions I was asked in the final stage (2 on 1 interview)...

* Tell us how you have reacted when someone in authority has done something you dont agree with?

* Tell us how you reacted when someone in authority did something that breaks the rules?

* Why do you want to work for Virgin?

* When did you show exceptional customer service?

* How do you have fun at work?

* What will you do if you are unsuccesful today?

There were several more, but its been some time now and thats all I can remember! Maybe someone else could chip in and help... But anyway, start working on those, I was asked all of them and more.

Good luck, its a great company and we're recruiting really hard at the moment. Let us know how you get on!

L7x3,

Many many congratulations on your successful application.

Having come from where you are now (though I am now on the ground), I thought perhaps one or two words of experience may be in order.

Please believe me L7x3, I don't wish to be negative, but you need to come here with your eyes open.

You WILL do lots of Orlando's (imagine a 747 nursery:p ) to start with

You WILL do lots of back-to-back East Coast states trips (OK if you dig shopping :D )

You WILL go to Lagos :yuk:

You WILL do the bucket-and-spade runs with the Chavs to the Caribbean :hmm:

You WILL at some stage, whilst doing all this, come out of the galley to start the service, look at the (seemingly) endless rows of heads in front of you in the Y cabin and lose the will to live :{ :{

But then you'll look around you, at the team you're working with, and KNOW that it'll ALL BE OK :ok: :ok:

On the plus side, you WILL go to Hong Kong, Cape Town, Sydney, Shanghai, San Fran, LA......so I'm sure you'll always keep that smile on your dial :O

Virgin Boi
27th Jan 2005, 17:51
On the plus side! :O

Orlando is a great flight, I love it! Its full of HAPPY passengers, who are VERY easily pleased. Beats a New York any day. :ok:

You only ever do back to back trips with your permission to crewing, you'll never be rostered a back to back trip. Always 2 days off in between at least. :)

I'm sure you will go to Lagos at some point, I've personally not had one rostered in 6 roster publications.

Caribbean flights are great fun! The passengers are ok, again, they're a happy lot, easily pleased. Not AS easily pleased as Orlando passengers, but generally OK. The money on Caribbean trips is EXCELLENT! :O

It's what you make of it...

This is the first stage of the selection procedure so I would wear something that you consider suitable for an interview.

Despite the previous post, I have it on good advice that what they are looking for is someone who is smiling and looks friendly !

My advice is to wear something that actually helps them picture you as a flight attendant.

Without being too obvious wear something similar to the current uniform with a big smile!

When I applied to VS I had professional photos taken in business attire.

They weren't expensive, you can get them done quite cheaply if you shop around.

Even if you decide not to use a photographer, definately wear business attire in your photos. I've heard the most hilarious stories during my training about candidates sending pictures of themselves on holiday wearing bikinis or even less!!

Despite some people's perception of Virgin, that is NOT the image the recruiters are looking for!

Good Luck!!:D :D

Hmmm, I work for them too and I would disagree...

You don't want to look like a school mistress in the photo, but they are definately going to favour the smart & polished look over the had-a-few-too-many-bacardi-breezers-now-my-boobs-are-gonna-fall-out-me-halterneck-top look!

I know what I would choose if I was a recruiter!

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me with what to wear in my application photo. I got some photos done today wearing a black suit and co-ordinating scarf so hopefully they'll turn out ok.

I have a couple more questions about the application......

How do the references work? do you provide them with reference contacts after they offer you the job????

Also, the the question that asks 'Please give details of other qualifications or special experience you feel may be relevant to your application' I can't think of anything to put here, I did a cabin crew course with ready 2 fly. Should I put that down?

Sorry, one more...... The requirements state 'educated to gcse standard' I have a grade C for Maths and a D for English Language and a D for English Literature. Will this effect my application?

Thank you so much, you've all been really helpful

First of all I would like to say hello to all of you. I saw VAA web site about terms and conditions to became CA (age over 19, holding EU passport etc.) and I am wondering if it is really possible to be offered a CA position when you are foreigner.

Hello BJG,
As long as you have the legal right to live and work in the UK then it is more than possible for you to apply for a job with Virgin or indeed any of the airlines based in the UK. My housemate is crew for Virgin and she says there are loads of non-british crew with the airline and I fly longhaul for BA and I am also foreign...(Well Irish is not that foreign but it is a different country), but in recent months I have flown with numourous Spanish, Italians, French, Russion, Isreali, Slovenian, Irish, Canadian, Greek, Scandanavian and Lebanese crew who all have the right to live and work in the uk!!! So dont worry about it, you will still be eligable!!!

It is obvious that the standard of cabin crew has been declining with Virgin over the last few years. Fatter and more stupid would probably describe it best.
If the Maths test is no longer set, then God help us, because the standard of spelling of the last few potential recruits posting leaves me with a deep sense of forthcoming disaster.

Hi everyone,
I am looking at applying for virgin and was wondering whether a lot of the crew have chosen to live close to their base or whether they commute from home. I live near birmingham so it would probably take me approx 2 and a half hrs to drive to lhr/lgw so im not sure whether this is suitable or not. Do any other crew commute this distance? Can someone tell me Virgin's staff travel allowance? There website states it's one of the best in the industry.

spunkydunkie
12th Feb 2006, 22:04
After 6 months probation your entitled to 7 free of charge tickets(basically you pay the tax £60 ish) flights on standby basis.

You are entitled to premium upgrades straight away then upper class 2 after 3 years service ( or is it 3? ) then 5 after 5 years.

You can also use all other zed ticket carriers . the prices vary . domestic flights are aprox £49. These are also standby basis.

If you want confirmed tickets then there are mates plus for yourself and people on your staff travel list. and mates tickets (more expensive) for anyone you know also confirmed.

So lots of nice perks!!!

On top of usual staff travel (e.g. unlimited ID90s on VS and other carriers with which VS has an interline agreement, which is practically all major carriers), VS also give their staff 7 FREE flights a year.

In October I will begin my Masters and I was thinking of applying for a cabin crew position with VS. I was wondering whether VS recruit for part-time/casual or single route crew similar to Qantas in Australia? I've heard that such crew work full time hours during the busy summer period and return to single route or casual contracts in the winter.
I am looking for something similar to this as I have four months off in the summer, and then begin my part-time study in October. Do / would VS recruit for crew like this? If I speak a specific langauge, for example Hindi or Mandarin, could I, for example do one DEL/BOM or PVG flight every week when I begin my Masters and then return to full time work during busy periods?
I emailed VS, however I got a standard reply letter which did not answer my question. Could any of you help me here?
I really want a career in the airline industry and becoming a cabin crew member has always appealed to me. However, I want to 'test the water' before committing myself and thought becoming a crew member while studying would let me do this!
Look forward to your advice.
Many thanks.

^ VS do not employ casusal/part time staff.

I bet they also wouldn't employ you if you said you were currently studying. They have a thing about stopping people from getting an education!!

If you want to 'test the water' for crew, VS isn't the place to do it. I suggest shorthaul - probably with BA or BD.

^^VS don't fly VK's LGW/LOS route as it is a seperate airline. You will however do the VS LHR/LOS route.

VS crew are trained on all 3 aircraft types.

Seriously!? I would still be getting an education if I was p/t - but as you mentioned they don't employ casual/part-time staff. Damn - I would love to work for Virgin! I'm sure you are absolutely correct about VS not accepting p/t but do you think it is worth me giving VS a ring and see what they say/advice they give me?

Do BA/BD take on part-time? I've been hearing that BD have high crew turnover and are very short on crew.

Thank you in advance! (And many thanks striparella for your reply, it was very kind of you - I appreciate it ;) )

^ It's not worth contacting them, they don't employ part time cabin crew new starters, they only offer permanent full time contracts. Unless things have changed since i was crew, part time is mainly only offered to returning to work mums.

Ground staff and Res i believe take on part time staff if you really do want to work for the company, it may be worth starting there. Shift work on the ground is far more flexible than crew if you're studying at the same time.

The only way i can see you getting round it is if you apply now for crew and don't tell them you plan on going back to education, work full time over the summer, and by the time your college course starts apply for one of the ground positions.

All though during the final months i was crew i was only getting minimum trips per month, which not only felt like part time, but the salary did as well!! Again, things hve probably changed.

Once again Striparella, many thanks for your advice! Appreciate it ;) . I may apply for groundstaff - when you say groundstaff is flexible, how flexible? incidently did you know of any students working for VS?

Wouldn't it just be easier to ask them before my college course starts if I can go part-time? But it's probably likely they will say see ya! I took your advice and contacted BD about part-time crew - hopefully will get a reply from them tomorrow, however I would love to work for VS!!!
Maybe someone can answer this question, why don't airlines generally recruit for part-time crew? Does it come down to money as usual?
Once again thank you - look forward to all your replies! (Cheers Striparella ;) )

Hi everyone i am new to this site and have been reading through all the threads. I am a wanabee flight attendant- have been for years. My job as a secretary is coming to an end this year and i have the Virgin application form ready to fill out! I feel well informed through reading everyone's comments etc.. Just 2 questions, at the assessment day - what kind of song do they make you stand up and sing infront of everyone?
Also - is it best to dress smart or funky?
Cheers!

You dont have to sing a song anymore. That stopped years ago.Its just a few group exercises. And for the interview go smartly dressed,it gives them a good idea of what you'd look like in the uniform.Good luck! :)

Don't worry beana you don't have to get up and sing. The group I was in had to develop a skit to present to the interviewers. The topic was 'Charity' so we did a skit about a charity and we DID sing some of it (as a group) and the rest was spoken with each individual in the group taking turns to speak. I think they gave us 20 minutes of preparation.

The interview is really fun so go for it and good luck.

On top of usual staff travel (e.g. unlimited ID90s on VS and other carriers with which VS has an interline agreement, which is practically all major carriers), VS also give their staff 7 FREE flights a year.

The ID90s are no more.....(apart from interline on other airlines) ID90 on VS have been replaced with ZED tkts

Hi Beana, the answer to your question smart or funky, i think the best option is smart, it looks more proffesional. A friend of mine recently had an interview with virgin and she turned up looking very nice but looked like she was going to meet her friends in a funky bar for lunch and she didnt get it. Im not saying that was why but it could have come accross to interviewers that she wasnt that serious about the job. Put it this way, you can never go wrong turning up for an interview in a smart suit. Good Luck

Just out of interest - i wonder how soon do you start flying after you have completed your training? And how far in advance do you receive your roster?
Questions i could ask in my interview really..!
Just wondering..

Just a few questions. I could not find them on the virgin atlantic website, so wanted to know here:

1) what is the current virgin pay? Ive seen the quotes from 2005, but wanted to know if it has changed?

2) what realistic chance have I got being a 19 year old who has had no airline experience

3) do we have to pay for uniforms or training. I have noticed some airlines do make you pay for those, and just wondered if VS was the same

Also, anything else that could be of help whilst I am filling out the application form will greatly be appriciated

Thank you :)

Hi virgin_cc_wannabe

Im hoping to work for Virgin too, if like me you have plenty of customer service experience, a happy and responsible personality with a great big smile, then i can tell you that you have a good chance! Your age and lack of airline experience isnt a problem.. so go for it!
No you dont have to pay for uniforms or training.
Maybe see you at the interview!!

Thanks beana.
I currently work in a nightclub, so if i can keep a smile on my face there, then I suppose I can manage to do so on an aircraft lol.
I have over 4 years customer service experience through part time jobs, im a bit of a crazy and happy person, and always got a posative attitude, so I suppose I will go for it!
Thanks for the posative info!

The way they say "thank you, you have passed our screening process" makes it sound a privilige to actually get the form. lol

Hi Guys,:)
Have read through most of the Virgin Atlantic thread but is dated back as far as 2004 .
I'm getting conflicting advice from people with regards to a Maths and English test.

In 2004 there is one, and then someone has recently said that they no longer have them but last week I hear that a friend of mine had to sit a Maths test.:bored:

Has anyone recently been, and if so could you let me know if you had to sit a Maths and English test?

Many thanks in advance,

Hi Crewboy. No VA dont make you sit a maths test anymore, unless things have changed again very recently.Do you have an interview coming up?....

Escape_Slide
17th Apr 2006, 09:35
I think maths tests are a waste of time. Perhaps rule-of-thumb tests might be more appropriate.

I am not joking.

Rule of thumb tests assess a crew member's spacial perception of the dynamics of the environment in which they are operating.

An example is say a 260Kt descent in an A320 say. Where is the nominal TOD?

At 30,000 feet cruise altitude, this would be at 90Nm to touchdown.
(30,000/1,000 x 3) = 90 Nm

How long will it take? 90/260 * 60 = 1/3 * 60 = 20 mins

You then make some compensations for wind and other altitudes but basically you are somewhere where you think you are for a straight in approach.

Maybe a bit oversimplified. It's sort of like driving your car. You get a smoother ride if you know the road ahead has a lower speed limit. You will lift your foot off the accelerator earlier and watch your car's speed match the decreased speed limit on the sign. You feel good about that. But what you did was apply a rule of thumb; if my speed is this, I must take my foot off the accelerator here to get to that target. After a couple of times you get a set of rules together for curves, slopes and road conditions and you get it right everytime. That doesn't involve any maths and yet you have mastered the control of the vehicle.

Even so, we do these rule-of-thumb calculations frequently in our heads and check them against instrumentation on good days. We may even go home and play it out on graph paper and Jep charts. When was the last time you flew a truly stabilised approach where you have managed the energy of your big jet yourself and the machine is driving down the glideslope almost hands free? It's a good feeling isn't it?

So if we do that, why are we putting crews through complex maths tests???

Seems a waste of time. :hmm:

virgin_cc_wannabe

Unfortunatly 18 is too young for virgin. their minimum age is 19 and they are strict on this. when phoning for an application form, they ask your age and if its under 19, they will not send you the form.
Just to get an application form you have to pass a screening test, so they must be strict on a few things.

DECOFLY It has only been in the last couple of years that virgin have taken away thier upper age limit and have seen the light, they need a contrast of cabin crew, not just 20 somethings. There are certainly a few more mature crew on board a lot of flights now, some in their 40's and 50's. If your thinking of applying DECO then go for it!

Hello all....im Squeeky and im new......*waves*:D

Ok where do I start.......
I had my application, sent it off...(FYI: I sent a full length shot of me in dark jeans and a dressy top, smart casual, with my hair up and also a head shot with my hair down, hope that helps people).
I received my postcard back weeks ago and never heard a thing so i called them............
I rang on the 17th and a guy told me my application was pending and to sit out the 28 days waiting period.....
Well 2 days ago (wed) I was fed up and just wanted to know either way so I called again.....
A nice lady told me my application was now "active" and she would go look for it......*started biting fingernails*
So she comes back and says "oh you were a No show" !!!!
No show? What? Oh my god!!!!!
Apparently.......I was due to have an interview on Monday just gone and I never turned up! Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!
After taking in what she said and explaining that I NEVER received a letter (real panic was setting in by now) she told me she would re-schedule......
YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! :) :D
So im now waiting for ANOTHER letter with a new interview date and im soooo excited..........:ok:

I have read this whole thread and would be grateful to anyone with updated information on the new or current interview process.....maths tests etc.......thankyou.....xxxxxxxxx

Hi Squeeky... good luck for your interview! I had mine a couple of weeks ago and found out last week that I got it! :D

The interview was fine... a group session in the morning which is quite relaxed... they'll ask you really simple qs about yourself... find out what you do at the moment etc. During a group activity, they'll take individuals to one side to ask you why you want to be cabin crew and why you want to work for Virgin. The group stage takes a couple of hours. After that, you take a break and then the interviewers split the group.. a group to have interviews in the afternoon, and a group to go home. :bored:

I didn't have to do a maths test, the test involved reading a page giving a scenario and then answering qs on it... so a memory test more than anything, and nothing tooooo difficult! :ok:

Anyway, keep us posted on how you get on!! Good luck!!!!

Hello all - I just came across this website and find it both useful and funny. I've just sent off my application for VS today but am struggling with the change in career path. Hello there, I dont (YET) work for Virgin but I know someone that does. I was therefore told that the salary is £10,500 during the probationary period and then goes up after that. You also get a substantial sector allowance (I wouldnt like to say the exact figure) which from what I have heard is more than most airlines. This bumps the annual salary up alot and makes Virgin one of the better paid companies to work for.....:)

Can I just add that I am going by what I have been told and do not yet work for them......but hope this information gives you a rough idea......:)

Maybe someone who does work for them can give you a more accurate figure.......:)

I just attended an assessment day and was told by recruiters pay for a new junior is around £10,500, which goes up to £11,000 ish after one year. On top of this you can expect to earn approx £6,000 a year in allowances and duty free commission. I've found this thread which may be of use to you

Hi,

Was just wondering if some of the Virgin guys and girls would be able to comment on present morale amongst cc?

I'm presently in the process of reapplying. Got past the group stuff previously but messed up the maths test.

I'm hoping to be successful this time but was reading some reviews on a passenger site the other day registering a great deal of dissatisfaction. Most were complementary about the cabin crew but weren’t happy with leg room / seats / entertainment system crashes etc. Loads of people saying they would never fly Virgin again etc.

I'm still really keen on the company myself but wondered if you were experiencing similar dissatisfaction on board and whether it was getting people down?

I have seen some virgin crew flying through dublin before, and they are usually the same people i see. i thought maybe they were commuting to heathrow with bmi ( can they fly stand-by on bmi for free?)

Morale amongst the crew is good. If you've been reading the reviews on the airline quality/skytrax website they do tend to be rather negative but it is not a true reflection of what really happens onboard.

Good luck with your application.

We have crew who live all over Europe (and some from even further away).

Once you complete the six month probation period you receive your Staff Travel benefits for use on VS and some other airlines. The crew you have seen commuting from Dublin are probably flying standby. I think the tickets cost around £60.

I am currently waiting for my application form to arrive from Virgin and am hoping to be invited to an interview. (Fingers Crossed)

Thanks very much,

Good luck Ianj, fingers crossed for you.

No, Virgin no longer require you complete a maths test. A part of the group tasks is you are all given a card with about eight lines of information about the compny on it, which you must read aloud to the group, I guess to see how confident you are speaking to strangers??? You can actually read??? I don't know but I'd recomend you practise reading aloud if you're not confident.

If you're successful through the mornning and invited to attend the 3:1 interview in the afteroon, you will be given a an A4 sheet with information on it, which they will give you 2 minutes to learn, and then present you with a bunch of multiple choice questions. If you don't pass this, they will send you home again.

I attended the assessment just the other week so if there's anything else you want to know please ask and I'll do my best!:)

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say thank you for such helpful info!

I applied to Virgin in the middle of May, got my application form within a week, sent it back on the Monday, got the postcard back on the Wednesday, and the invite for the interview on the Saturday, so the application process doesn't always take 28 days!

My group interview is on the 9th June - is anyone else going to be there?

I'm nervous but excited - I think I've probably got the qualities they're looking for, but wanted to check whether Virgin have a preference for bubbly, outgoing people as a general rule? Is there such a thing as too bubbly perhaps?

Any help would be most appreciated - I guess I'm just a little worried that my nerves will manifest themselves as over-bubbly on the day!

Hi All,

I have received my interview date back and it is on the 19th June. I have been thinking of applying for a while now. My best friend is currently a working as cabin crew for Virgin and I have been on 5 trips with her so far. Each trip has made me want it more and more. The reason it has been a big decision for me is the money, giving up a career which I have built up over the last 12 years and the fact that I am 29.. But I have decided to bit the bullet and go for it. So if anyone has any tips about the day – they will be greatly appreciated. I agreed with some of the messages – that if we find out exactly what is going to be asked – it will result in answers coming across as fake. But any format of guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! :O

The money played a huge part for me too, not that I'm on a hell of a lot now, but I'd definitely be taking a pay cut, and when you're looking at these kind of wages, every penny counts!

Knowing the questions in advance may seem like it's giving an unfair advantage to some, but when you think about it I'm sure the recruiters can spot someone who's rehearsed their lines to perfection as it'll *seem* really fake. Not to mention that it's not the only thing that they'll be looking for!

I applied to Virgin in 2003 and was invited for an interview. We were all told it would be a really relaxed day but it couldnt be further from the truth, the three assesors were scary, i havnt had the courage to go back and from what ive heared i dont want to go back.

Friends who have gone over have said its not very friendly and people have gone on trips and not seen other crew till its time to return home. I was quite disturbed to hear about the pilot who committed suicide and nobody checked on him for days.

8th Jun 2006, 21:39
With all due respect I am crew for Virgin and have been for the last 3 and a half yrs. I have yet to experience a flight where I have heard from nobody. Yes on some trips I like to just chill out and have some "self time" on others I like to go out and get absolutely blitzed! I believe it is down to each individual to decide when they land if they want to be "ont their own" or hang about with other crew. Most crew swap numbers and arrange to meet for breakfast or lunch etc etc. However if someone doesnt give me their number, then I wouldnt check on them every day? hour? minute? The job at Virgin is what you make it. We are all adults. Did your friend try and see what other crew were doing?

As far as the pilot commiting suicide, nobody knows what was going on in the poor guys private life, my mate was on that trip and said that their was no signs of an unhappy man when she saw him, its just a really sad unfortunate incident , not one that I think should be put on here as justification as to why not to apply for a company.

Tell me what do other airlines do, do they have a check in service i.e all crew must phone someone at 0900 or 1000 to tell them they are ok, if someone doesnt check in do they then go batter the door down? As I said I thought we were all adults and our time downroute was our own time.

787Heaven
9th Jun 2006, 09:48
Gpik there is no need for a nannying service on any airline like you said we are all adults, im the first one to do my own thing, but nothing annoys me more than crew taking it apon themselves to deliberately exclude themselves from socialising with other crew, whats wrong with the odd call to your senior or a crew member who is new, im not saying make a huge issue of it, if they want to be left alone then fine, its their choice, but surely some of the desinations you fly to you would make an issue of keeping in touch with each other.

Gpik
9th Jun 2006, 12:04
Yes totally agree with you , however its up to the individual to instigate it, have never come across a whole crew that intentionally distanced itself from one person. I think your mate was very unlucky when she did, regards

I had a Virgin interview in March and was sooo gutted not to make it through to the second half.
When I was driving home I realised I had made loads of little mistakes. When you first arrive and they come down to meet you, make sure you smile and say good morning to all three and make eye contact, that is so important. I was so nervous that I did things like sitting on my hands because I didn't know what to do with them:=! I also got nervous reading out loud which is really unlike me.

The three assessors seemed really friendly but I got a bit confused as to what they were actually looking for, i've got a lot of customer service experience and I'm "bubbly"!!
Anyway I've decided to reapply in July because I'm going to work for Virgin, even if it takes forever...wish me luck!!

9th Jun 2006, 21:41
Hi Millymoo, I dont think you can go wrong by wearing a smart skirt suit and have your hair up. It helps them picture you in uniform and gives a better idea as to how you will come across out on line as crew. It might sound a bit sexist but its just human nature. Top Tip, pop a bit of red lippy on, then you'l really look the part. Good luck!

MillyMoo
10th Jun 2006, 12:25
Ah thanks sukigirl!
I think your right... a skirt will also make me feel a bit more glam and give me a bit more confidence.

Does anyone know if they weigh you at your interview. I weighed myself on the scales in boots and ive come up 5lb heavier than the ones i have at home!! are they strict on weight? (im not too heavy 9st 9 on my home scales!)

Thanks :)

weeks 3 and 4 are sep and they are very intense, i have a great group of people so we just help eachother.

5 and 6 are serivice, routes, rosters, etc

i keep telling myself it will be worth it :}

Hi There,

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted infomation here! I have found it so helpfull throughout applying to Virgin and it made my interview experience far easier and less worrying! (Had my interview on wednesday)

Just wanted to add that i had both a memory test and a maths test at my interview, but was not weighed or measured. The recruitment people were lovely and made the day as relaxing and enjoyable as possible!

Now waiting for the results of my interview... 7 to 14 days seems like forever...

Good luck to anyone else in the same position! :ok:

hello everyone i'm a new member but i need some help.

so virgin will launch a recrutiment campaign (walk in) in hong kong very soon, and i was thrilled to know that they're hiring hong kong base again. however, they're looking for someone who has 3 years customer service experience this time. i'm a fresh graduate from college so i don't have 3 years working experience :ugh: but i did work for other airline as an intern for a month. so i'm really frustrated now, should i still have a go?

MillyMoo

Personally id go for it!

Just draw upon your experiences from college and your work experience to show them that you are a peoples person, work well in a team etc... you have nothing to loose!!

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if Virgin Atlantic still do math test as part of their interview process? I have an interview, well more like a 'Cattle Call' I willl be attending thats coming up soon and although I am confident in my Flight Attendant skills, I dont really like maths without my trusty calculator :ok:, basic stuff I am fine with (as long as I can scribble on a bit of paper) but if there is some form of maths test....how hard can it be right...hhhhmmmm I wonder?

MillyMoo
25th Jun 2006, 21:15
I went to my interview for virgin just over a week ago and i was given a maths test. It mainly based around currency and giving customers change as well as calculating the time taking into consideration the time differences etc...

I hadnt done maths for years and was pretty nervous about it but its fine! There is a time limit but you shouldnt find it too hard!

Good Luck :ok:

MillyMoo
25th Jun 2006, 21:16
Oh and they also allow you to scribble... you just have to circle your final answer so that they know! :)

Thanks MillyMoo, I hope they give us atleast currency conversions, otherwise :ugh:

Well, time to scoot and do some constructive study, Thanks again!

Hey Ms MillMoo, do you mind if I pick your brain just 1 more time?

Regarding the math stuff (I know I am thinking way too much) but are the questions regarding currency like:

a- Mr blogs buys something for 15 pounds with 500HKD, what is his change in pounds with exchange rate at 1pound=14.1HKD

or (more simple)

b- 1pound=14.1 HKD how many pounds are 500HKD?

sorry to bother you with this, just I would feel a bit better if I was able to get a specific understanding of the level required, because division without a calc using decimals....eeeekkkk:ugh:

Thanks again :O

OzyOS
26th Jun 2006, 16:59
Whoops in Qb I ment exchange rate at 1pound=12HKD (no decimal, easier that way) :ugh:

Hi Everyone!

I had my interview on the 19th July and I found out on Saturday (24th) that I have the job. I start my training on the 14th Aug. (Virgin)

I am soooooooo excited! I live about 2 hours drive away (In rush hour) so I am considering taking up accommodation in one of the houses on the list given to me. Does anyone recommend this? I was thinking if we have a lot of homework - those 2 hours will be very valuable. Also - I thought that it might be nice to be near everyone else if lots of people stay local.

Is anyone else on here starting their training on the 14th Aug??

Thanks and I loo0k forward to maybe meeting some of you soon..

I found out i got the job today too!!!:) So, so, so pleased!!! I also start training course on the 14th of August so ill be looking to find somewhere too!!

OzyOs,
heres two questions i remember and the rest are basically the same!
1) You leave LHR to Boston at midday, two hours into the flight a passenger asks you the time. Boston is 8 hours behind (not sure if im right on that but you get the idea!) what time would you tell the passenger?
2) A passenger spends £25 on some sunglasses, £10 on a teddy bear and £18 on a t-shirt in duty free, if he gives you £60 how much change would you give him?

Good luck!!:ok:

Anyone starting training on 11th Sep @ Virgin?
Say hi!!
:)

29th Jun 2006, 13:05
* Make sure you say hello and introduce yourself to everyone else waiting for the interview to commence.
A few ice breakers will could include:
- Hello I'm (blah blah blah)
- Where are you from?
- Have you applied before? (that way if you haven't they may give you some ideas for the day)
- What do you do for work at the moment?
(that should be enough to get started and get you talking to a few people)

* To get through the group exercise at the begining, make sure you provide ideas to your problem, acknowledge others ideas, don't hold back but don't be abrupt and try to lead the group - you're not going for a supervisor role so they aren't looking for leaders.

* Most important thing to remember 'NOT' to say is how 'you love to travel', or 'you're applying because you want to see the world' - it doesn't work like that.
You need to be focused on 'Customer Service' 'Exciting random schedule'.

* We aren't plastic Sindy dolls at Virgin so don't be fake. Smile and be pleasant and honest - if this doesn't come naturally or you're stressed from the car/train journey - take a few deep breaths before you go in, grab a coffee (Interviews are now at Concorde 2000 @ Gatwick - there is a small coffee shop on the ground floor as you walk in and get greated by one of the recruiters - leave an extra 20/30mins before your interview is due to commence).

* Most of all relax and enjoy it. It's more like going for a audition than an interview.
If you are not successful (as I have been previously) don't take it personally - there was a guy on my interview day who had been crew for another airline and did everything right - from what I thought - and didn't get through. Re-apply in 6 months! - That is seen as encouraging.

* If you get asked what would you do if you are unsuccessful - Reapply in 6 months -"I can't see myself working for any other airline - Virgin is so fantastic" - and it is, wait until you start work here!

* Oh and don't forget any of the required documents - have your checklist from your invitation letter and all that ready the night before. It is easlily done.

Hope this helps - any questions? Good luck y'all - See you in the air!

Hi! Guys!
This website is really helpful, thanks for all you guys generous sharing!
There are only 3 days left for all we HK wannabe to get ready for VS's RD in Hong Kong. I am getting very excited since I was determined to join.
I quit my ex-airline and learnt swimming for VS. I am preparing some Q&A now. Scribbling answers and practising in front of mirror until I get natural.
Only that I always get nervous in the group, for this part I am not sure how can I get ready.

OzyOS
29th Jun 2006, 13:49
I know 'Dreaming For VS', its deffinately exciting, its excellent that you learnt to swim for the FA position, but was wondering why you would quit your current airline job before you have the go ahead for Virgin? I'm assuming it was a ground job because being able to swim is an essential requirement, but I truely hope your resignation wasnt based on a potential position with Virgin. I am not trying at all to sound negative, more concerned that (god forbid) if Virgin doesnt work out, you have something to fall back on?

Anyway, Best of luck for Sunday :ok: ...and let the games begin!

They are pretty accomodating when it comes to changing your interview date - give the Recruitment Team a ring and ask for the interview dates that are available. You can pretty much pick and choose when is best for you to go.

Hi Airhostess dream...

If you read through all the posts most of your questions should be answered. I read them all before my interview and i got the job!! As you read through there are updates on how the interview process has changed, but to be honest its not far off the first post which explains everything. Also i thought i would get weighed and my height checked, but on the day neither of these happened so i suppose they also change the format slightly depending on whos recuiting!

Best of luck tho, and my top tip for you would be SMILE... lots!! :)

Hi Everyone...

Got a few questions for you! Just interested to know...

1) What happens at the Virgin medical, and when does it take place??

2) The questionnaire we have to fill in and return says they 'may' contact your doctor for a medical report. Why do they not always contact your doctor, under what circumstances will they contact your doctor and if they contact your doctor do they write a specific report on a specific concern or just a general report based on your medical history and overall health to the Virgin doctors??

I have eczema and im concerned this may be a problem!?

Hi! OzyOs... trying to reply you for many times but it doesn't process! SOrry!
Money wise, I should not let go my work in CX, but I find something more interesting.
You are not being negative... your concern is just realistic! Indeed, if Virgin turns me down this time, isn't it good in another sense that I am obliged by faith that I will pursue another kind of amusing life?
Fairly enough, when my friends and schoolmates furthered their studies in Uni, I was flying around with Cathay Pacific to see a lot, I earned so much money and experience. If Virgin doesn't choose me, I will go for another adventure. I am going to sit for Korean and Japanese Proficiency tests this year, probably going to University next year.

Virgin Boi
5th Jul 2006, 12:15
Hi Jam,

Minimum age is 19. No upper age restrictions any more. This is now illegal - so Virgin has had to drop it.

Age of the crew really varies, from what I see myself I estimate the average age of a new joiner is early twenties, though you do see some 19 / 20 year olds joining, and also some in their 30's, 40's and even 50's.

We did an average age competition on a recent MCO I operated, and the answer was 29. Though this figure included 3 ancient wrinkly old flight deck.

I don’t believe there are any male cabin crew of Indian origin at the London base, though there are a few Indian origin females. In any case, regardless of whether there are or aren’t, you would be more than welcome as there is no difference at all. Crew from Virgin come from all walks of life and all backgrounds, and everyone (usually) gets on very well!

Virgin has bases in Delhi and Mumbai where all the crew are Indian nationals.

Hope this info helps!

Thank you very much for the info.....it is very useful. I am waiting for my application to come through so i can apply. Two other things, do you know roughly what the male to female ratio is in for CC and when you say virgin have bases in Mumbai and Delhi, are you saying they have CC based there or that virgin fly to these destinations.

Hi all! I currently work on virgin trains and I am debating whether to come across to the planes. I have had an interview 2 years ago but didnt succeed. I am bored of my job and fancy a change. I would love to see a bit of the world, is flying one of the best ways to do it? I also live in Newcastle so would have to commute. Is it expensive commuting does any one know? How long is the training for? How much could I expect to take home a month on the planes? Read through the threads but still unclear!!! Also is it really hard work? Can someone please fill me in?!!! At a crossroads and dont know whether to stay where I am or come across to atlantic!!!! :bored: :ugh: I know one thing, virgin is a good company to work for! Hope someone can shed some light for me!!! Thanks! xx

Hello bubblybabe,

Alot of people i used to fly with did commute from Newcastle and didn't have a problem, however there are alway's the inevitable train delays etc if you choose trains, hoever alot of crew fly as it's quicker, you need to remember flying is hard work but well worth it and lot's of fun and all the crew are really helpful and friendly.... I am very pro Virgin so i will always sing their praises as i really enjoyed my time with them, so much so im thinking of returning part time myself, this will also be difficult as im a single parent with a 3yr old little girl and not alot of help well no help actually from her father, however my mum is willing to help put. The training is 6 weeks long and based in Gatwick. There are alot of B&B's you can use and then return during the weekend, that's what i used to do and i only live 40mins away but you need to be really focused in training and give it your all or if you fail an exam 3 times your out on you ear! well dont quote me on that but that it what it was like 5yrs ago when i worked for them. Im not sure what the basic pay is but i dont think it's more that £1000 per month and then you get your flight pay down route which will vary depending on the flights you have, It's not the best salary in the world but the benefits are excellent, pension health care and 7 free flight's a year for family and friends. If you want to travel a bit it's a great way to do it and really fun. I know what i would rather do and it wouldn't be the train's but that's my personal opinion. if you go to the virgin website their number is on there and you can call and ask all the questions you need.
Good luck babes

Hi Laura,

Well if your companies have moved on there is not to much you can do about it if there is no one there, Virgin do request up to 5 yrs back as stated but im not sure for definate. you can apply and see what happens, there must be something they can do in these instances.

Hi Laura,

Well if your companies have moved on there is not to much you can do about it if there is no one there, Virgin do request up to 5 yrs back as stated but im not sure for definate. you can apply and see what happens, there must be something they can do in these instances.
Good luck
xx;)

Unfortunately, it's not a Virgin requirement that you have 5 years of references, it's for your BAA pass so that you can actually work at the airport.
There must be something that you/ they can do to make sure you have enough references etc but be warned, when I started at my airline (not VAA) there was a girl on my course who passed all her exams, got her wings and was then 'let go' by the company because they couldn't contact all her references!
I know I sound like the bearer of doom and gloom but if it was me, I would much rather be properly informed before getting my hopes up! (sorry :oh: )

:O Thanks very much Jayneella! Thats been a huge help to me. Im currently on about £1,00o a month so that suits me. Is it expensive staying in b&bs? Do you get concession flights after 6 months is it? Going to send my application away tomorrow. More prepared for this interview! Looking at all angles to make sure I make the right decision! This is a great site for getting info! Good luck for the future and thanks again!

Hi Guys

I have an interview for Virgin on 25th July. I was just wondering how tough the competition really is? It seems that they have people attending interviews nearly every day!

I have no previous airline experience, however have completed the cabincrewdirect.com diploma.

This is something I have wanted to do all my life but am just worried about how I'm going to get that point across?? I would be devestated if I didn't get the job. Any tips would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi guys, I was ment to go for my interview today but my dad who was ment to be taking me down to London came over really ill yesterday and it was too short notice to arrange anything else! I was gutted! I rang up and explained and they were rly nice about it thank god! Ive sorted out most of my references now thanks, and thanks for that peaky uve rly scared me now, hopefully they will be alrite!!

Ive got a question, if I was to be offered a job with an airline company in London, how easy is it to relocate down there? I mean do cabin crew normally house share? Does Virgin help you find a place?

Oh laurawotsit, I'm sorry that wasn't my intention at all, but i just wanted you to know that it is important that you have references because it's not something they will just 'gloss' over (if you see what I mean!) as you say, you've got most of them sorted now, so you will be fine my lovely! :ok:

Hi Laura, I hope your dad is ok and feeling better, what an awful situation to be in, when a parent is ill it is so stressful and going for your interview is to.
Just remember it took me 2 years to get into virgin as when i applied years ago you had to re-apply in a year not 6 months as it is now, I kept trying and trying and got in eventually and now im hoping to return, but at the end of the day i will have to go through the whole process again aswell and if im not sucessful i will re-apply in another 6months, Im sure now you have all your references sorted everything will be fine.
All the best and let us all know how you get on.

Love Jayne x ;)

Hi everyone! Can anyone tell me how long the recruitment process takes? So how long does it take from submitting your form to getting an interview? Then after the interview how long till you get a reply? If you get the job how long after that is the training course? Hope someone can shed some light! Cheers!!! :O

Hi

Please can some one give me a typical months rosta as i was hoping to return to virgin after 6yrs off to have my family and have found out today that they dont recruit for part-time CC, they will only offer PT to returning to work mums who have been on maternity leave.
I want to try and find out if it's possible for me to work full time and it not dissrupt my little one too much! i remember i used to do 4-5 flights a month depending on the destination but it was so long ago it's a little shady!
Hope you can help.

Hi Bubblybabe1,

Flight times vary between 6 and 13 hours, the shortest routes being Lagos and Dubai and the longest being Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

You are guaranteed a minimum of 9 days off every month.

Hope this helps.

Please help!!

I start with Virgin on the 14th of August and have been sent the e-learning pack which i need to do before i start. I cant get on to the Induction course for some reason so am going to call them tomorrow, but i have attempted to start the Cabin Safety Training... and here lies my problems!! :uhoh:

In the pack it says we need to achieve at least 80% in the e-learning, but does this mean only for the 'Flight Safety Knowledge Test' module which is near the end, or do all the questions asked througout all the modules count towards your final mark?? Im confused as they ask you questions throughout every module without giving you the knowledge to answer them correctly in the learning beforehand. They are true or false answers, but sometimes cover elements that have not previously been discussed in the module. I got some wrong on these and am worried they count towards the final mark. :ugh:

If anyone could help me with this id really appreciate it! I cant believe i may have messed this up already!! :{

Hi MillyMoo,

I've no idea how the e-learning is assessed, as it was all slates and chalk when I joined, none of this new fangled computer stuff

My advice would be to call the training department. They are really helpful and will unravel the mysteries of e-learning for you.

Good luck with your course starting on August 14th :ok:

MzGuilty
24th Jul 2006, 19:22
There are a number of different modules on the e-learning, and you have to achieve 80% in all of them. I think there are four or five if I remember correctly. At the end of each one you pass, you print off a certificate to prove you have achieved the pass park for the e-learning. I agree that they seem to ask questions not covered in the e-learning! You aren't tested on this when you start, but the trainers know who has completed it, how long it took and the mark each person achieved. This does not go towards your final marks, as you are tested each day throughout training, where the pass mark is 88%. It is important you complete the e-learning though.

I forgot a lot of it by the time I started. Some of the questions do crop up in the daily tests.

Good luck. :ok:

Yeah the uniform fitting is fun, but it doesnt take too long. They said ill be getting:

2 suits
4 shirts
2 pairs of shoes (1 high pair and some flats)
2 scarfs
1 belt
1 winter jacket
1 cardigan
2 aprons (at least i think it was 2!)
1 handbag
1 pair of earings
1 money bag (and a little pouch that you have to keep on your belt at all times)
1 pair of gloves
1 travel bag (for taking on the plane)

and i think thats about it! ha ha ha... you get loads! :) It makes the whole job seem more real once you've tried the uniform on! I hope you enjoy it! :ok:

Hi everyone! :) this is a really helpful website, so thanks for everyone who has posted. I have an interview on august 18th and although I can't wait it's hard not to feel nervous! For those of you who have had interviews recently what did you have to do in the group interview and roughly how many people attend the interview? I wore a trouser suit in my application photo...is it best to stick with that at the interview? Also in terms of group exercises are they looking more at how you interact with each other rather than the outcome of whatever you have to do?

I've just graduated from uni and this is the only thing I want to do. I have wanted to do this since I was 5 years old and I just hope I get it because it means everything to me. I'm working 9-5 at the mo but I hate that routine...I love working hours that are always different because I hate having a fixed routine all the time.

Do most people get turned away after the group interview...or does it just depend? Do they check every single reference you give...what do they ask your friends?

Sorry to ask so many questions!

xx:) oh anyone else got an interview on the same day?!

Hi! Welcome!
I have participated into the recruitment day in Hong Kong, my home. Though the interview is slightly different in Australia, UK or HOng Kong, it's nutritious for all CC wannabe to read though this and the thread "Virgin Blue Recruitment". The style and tips to make it through to the final stage of interview, is somehow similar.

:D Cheers for the chance coming! Bless you!!!

Hope I would see you on the flight! :ok: I am waiting... patiently for the results! Wish me good luck.

Hi Snolly. The training course lasts 6 weeks and it consists of customer service,Avmed (aviation medicine) and S.E.P which is the safety side of it.Most people find s.e.p the hardest but if you put the study time in then you would be ok.All in all it can be draining but also fun.Its worth all the hard work you put in.Hope this answers your question :ok:

Hi All,

I haven't had chance to come on here for a while. Congratulations to all the people who have found out they have the job.. I start my training next Monday. Tomorrow is my last day at my current job and I am sad, nervous but mostly excited! I really can't wait to start now. My best friend is already cabin crew for Virgin and since I have been offered the job, every trip she goes on I get very jealous! She has just come back from a 2 night trip in Vegas where they hired out convertible porches and drove around everywhere virtually.. I think Vegas is her favourite trip!

I have completed my e-learning. It isn't that bad, for anyone who hasn't started it yet. You have to get over 80% to pass and then you print off your certificate. You also have to do one on the induction. But for some reason it didn't register that I had completed it - so I called the support line and they said that you don’t get a certificate for that one and it didn't matter, as long as I had completed it..

Is there anyone else who is starting on the 14th? I know Michelle and Camilla are (I can't wait to meet you both and be at the accommodation together).. If you read this before Sunday - I will text you both and see what time we are going to meet!!

Anyway - best be off!!

Take Care

Sally xx

Hiya

Just a quick question! I'd really love to apply at Virgin, but I'm concerned about the height issue as I'm only 5ft. Can anyone please tell me how strict they are about height, and is it worth applying? Every airline I've looked at seems to have the 5'2" requirements, and I feel a bit gutted!

Thanks for replying LittleMiss! I really want to work for Virgin (my brother works for them at Gatwick, not as Cabin Crew, but he loves his job!) It's so frustrating being short when I want this job sooooo much! Maybe I could get my brother to put in a good word for me?! (Joke!)

I guess, as Plan B, I'll have to look at other airlines at Gatwick, but I don't know if any would recruit under 5'2"? I don't know where to start really!  Any advice anyone, it'd be much appreciated! :)

Hi Gatwick Girlie!

There is hope so dont give up! I know a small friendly airline (so im told) called Eastern Airways who have bases all over the UK. They recruit cabin crew who are 4ft 8 to 5ft 10 in height.

http://www.easternairways.com/careers

You might have to stick to an airline that fly smaller aircraft like the Saab and Jet Stream. Airlines flying larger aircraft request crew to be above 5ft2 as you need to be able to reach the safety equipment in the over head compartments.

Good luck in your search,

Ian. :ok:
