There is a flying club at the only airport Grantley Adams (?) .
I got an hour in 1999 with an instructor in a C152 - 8PLAB. They also had a couple of PA28's and some twins.

I couldnt get a solo, the story went ; you had to get a Barbados licence - that meant a check ride with an examiner + a small fee. As the only examiner was off the island during my stay it didnt happen.

Bit of forward planning should sort it, sorry dont have any contact data try Tourist office web site.

Ken,

I'm going there in July and did a pprune search on this very subject yesterday. I'm just looking to get airborne with an instructor as I haven't finished my ppl yet.

I got the name of a flying school called Gardair, run by Derek Gardier, who is apparently a good chap. There were no contact details though, and the threads were from 2002, so the info may be out of date.

I get back on 3rd August, so I'll let you know more then if you're not already in Barbados.

Regards,

Dave

True. But at least we've got the flagship - G-BOAC - at Manchester and SSD gets to sit in the P1 seat while showing the punters the flightdeck. I'll be in there this Saturday; nice way to spend an afternoon - and they pay me for it as well:ok:

I have a great photo of me and fellow instructor Dave Clark back in the 80's when Concorde arrived at Liverpool.

We were both doing our instuctors course at CATS and we sat in the cockpit; me left hand seat and Dave right. A local newspaper took our photo and entitiled "things to come " but it never came to be.
Shame great British technology subject to USA jelousy,

Killed most world wide orders.

Same story differnet UK product.

Barbados is pretty small (about 35 km long and 20 km at its widest), so say 100 km around the perimeter.

Don't hire the plane for too long!

Ken,

I've just got back, but unfortunately did not manage to go flying. However the outfit there is called the Barbados Light Airplane Club, telephone 420 4359 (sorry, don't know what the international dialling code is).

I called them a couple of times when I was there but only got an answerphone, so it might be a good idea to try getting in touch with them as soon as you get there, or even before you go.

Didn't see Concorde there either, but still had a great time.

Dave
