Hi,

My group owns a C150, we operate from an airfield close to a Class D CTR and below Class D CTA. We have a requirement to operate occasional flights within the Class D airspace under VFR, and to operate in Class G airspace VFR/IFR.

As I read it we don't need a Mode S Transponder until 2008. However if I fly an aircraft operating IFR in Class D airspace that aircraft will need Mode S from 2005.

Am I right?

Unless you are flying IFR into major controlled airspace ie. London Paris etc you are OK for the forseeable future.

Thanks - I suppose a follow on question would be what is 'major controlled airspace' CAA DAP describes it as 'notified TMA and En-Route Airspace', but can't find any reference as to which airspace will be 'notified'
