I have recently obtained my instructors rating and I want to advance to multi-engine instruction as soon as possible. Am i correct in thinking i need 500 hrs and if so is this total time or instructional?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not aware of the need for 500hrs total time, but I think you require a minimum of 50hrs multi P1 before you can be a Multi FI.

You are correct in thinking that you need 500hrs and it is total time. You also need 30 hourse PIC in a MEP(L) aeroplane of which 10 hours must have been in the 12 months prior to applying for the rating.

Quite right, you need 500 hours as pilot of aeroplanes including 30 hours PIC of which 10 hours PIC was in the last 12 months.

Unless it has changed since I left Oz up to 25 hrs of the 50 command can be ICUS.

It is worth remembering that you can only instruct the MEP rating at an approved school. I got mine last year and because I work at a registered facility I have not been able to teach it.
