Just a reminder that from the 15-19th June 2004 the zones become PPR during Royal Ascot.

The areas to note where their will be lots of aircraft outside controlled airspace not working radar are the BAGSHOT and MANOR freelanes to the south west and around COOKHAM to the North West. Obviously, the normal areas outside the zones will get busy as Battersea becomes full, such as Alexander Palace/abeam Brent/Banstead/Oxshott/Crystal Palace etc as helis hold awaiting onward clearance.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE avoid asking for BUR-ASCOT transits!! We hand over some airspace to Ascot Tower (EGLT!!!) so cannot approve them.

Have a quick look even if not involved in flying helis into Royal Ascot - there are some good maps here:

enjoy......... (you will need to log in to the AIS website)

CAN THIS BE MADE A STICKY?

That should make access to Fairoaks from the South West a bit long-winded....

So much fuss just for people to watch a few tons of self-propelled dog meat running around.

BEagle, I fly from Fairoaks and the arrangements for Ascot have minimal impact upon flying from there.

Flights arriving/departing from Fairoaks that would not normally be seeking to operate SVFR through the London CTR are unaffected other than for the need to keep an extra vigilant lookout for traffic operating into or out of Ascot along the Bagshot Freelane.

Those flights that would normally seek to transit the London CTR SVFR are slightly affected since Ascot-BUR becomes unavailable, but the extra time involved in flying atound the western edge of the CTR is at worst no more than about 10 minutes in an aircraft flying at 100kts.

And the top prize today goes to the pilot requesting a photo task between Bracknell and Ascot at 1000ft! (in a fixed wing, nothing to do with the race meeting...)

"Is that a no then??!"
"Correct - frequency change approved!"

Nice try my son! :)
