I received the following press release from Wilksch yesterday.

"Wilksch Airmotive and established UK diesel engine producer Lister Petter are delighted to announce a manufacturing agreement as part of the thrust towards volume production of the WAM series of aircraft engines. The development of a dedicated engine build facility at the Lister Petter site in
Dursley, Gloucester, will enable increased production volumes of WAM engines, commencing in the second half of 2004.
Lister Petter, which produces thousands of industrial diesel engines per year, will contribute engine test facilities, fuel injection system production capability, and extensive assembly-line experience to aid WAM production. WAM will institute production Quality Assurance procedures in a dedicated production cell at Lister Petter's Dursley site creating a capability to manufacture both kit and, in the future, type certificated aircraft engines. In 2005 WAM expect to have the manufacturing capacity to produce between 250 and 500 engines per year. Further continued expansion is planned which will satisfy projected future demand of up to 5,000 engines per year.
During transition to the new, manufacturing cell, production of engines will continue at the current WAM facility in Buckinghamshire to support existing kit aircraft customers.
Former CAA Propulsion Department Approvals Manager, Dave Lambourne, has joined Wilksch Airmotive as Director of Quality to head the Quality Assurance effort while also assisting with WAM-120 type certification.

Meanwhile the Wilksch design team continues work on the larger WAM-160 engine due to ship for kit aircraft in 2005.
Flight testing of the innovative, light-weight WAM-120 turbocharged JET-A1 engine continues with excellent performance and positive pilot feedback. The unique 120HP power plant weighs only 100kg, making it ideal for use on
aircraft between 560 and 750kg gross weight."

My favourite Lister diesel used to be the 6/1. Six horsepower, single cylinder, 600 rpm flat out, splash lubrication, twin masive flywheels, could run a pump out in the African bush for years and years without needing repairs despite all the best efforts of the locals.

Might be a job to get one to fly though! :p
