Will be on a family holiday near Bordeaux in July, and may need to escape for a day or so.

Are there any flying/microlight clubs nearby that would welcome someone with slightly-better-than-schoolboy French.

Are FAA PPL's acceptable or legal for flying French registered aircraft?

M,

Went there ourselves last year and were going to fly at Lilbourne.

Friendly folks and they were happy to do a checkout etc.

(Nice terrace outside with good beer in the sunshine, but I digress!)

In the end a friend who lives locally came out and took us up in his Robin so did not fly the club aircraft.

Not sure if they can check out people with an FAA license or whether you need something from the DGAC (as in a validation) beforehand.

The DGAC will insist on validating your FAA ticket before you can solo in a F-reg aircraft. This is a formality only, but the French love that kind of thing :-)

I was with FD on the occasion he mentions and the club there was very friendly and couldn't do enough to get us into the air.

Thanks guys, but I can't find any links on the Web for Lilbourne.

Do the French have any hassle with Class 3 medicals?

The DGAC are pretty good at validating FAA tickets without undue formalities. I am not aware of them getting awkward on medicals in particular.

You will need to find a regional office (Merignac has one IIRC) to get the job done though.
