The West of Scotland PFA Strut will be holding their annual Young Eagles Day at Cumbernauld on Saturday 12th June 2004 from 1030.

The aim as always is to get as many kids in to the air during the day as time, weather, and daylight will permit.

So why not fly in and make someones day for them ??

There will be free landing fees and Avgas (provided pro rata on number of kids flown) so in addition to making someone else happy, you get some cheaper flying too.

I should be there, so say Hello.

A report on last years event is here:

The Wiltshire PFA Flyers are also holding a Young Eagles day on Saturday on June the 12th. For those of you who are based in the South West and want to know more about the Scheme come along to Kemble and see how it works. We've also been involved with the Air Scouts with Air Activity Weekend Camp (http://www.gloucestershire-scouts.org.uk/news_air.htm) Which is hopefully going to be the first of many to be run by PFA struts all around the country.
It's hard work but well worth the effort. :ok:

Edited for spelling

What does B.T.T.T. mean (pardon my ignorance)

Are you going to give Kenny a happy pill for the day?:)

It signifies "Back To The Top", which is where a worthy thread such as this one belongs. I once did Young Eagles on one day, followed by Project Propeller on the next, flying with aviators from the youngest to the oldest, which was a treat.

I was involved last year with 3 of the cadets in a Prestwick - Cumbernauld - Prestwick flight. We all had a great time. It was a bit unnerving with one 13yr old boy who could fly like he had been doing it for years! Put it down to hours on Microsoft Flight Simulator!

If there is anyone free on that day, I would encourage you to head off to Cumbernauld and help out.

PS the fuel is sponsored!!

Enjoy!

Hello I am Flypuppy's mum. I am not sure where this should go, but I have hijacked my son's PPRUNE Personality to post this.

The 5th Kirkintilloch Guides would like to say a big thank you to Richard Wakefield and his team for setting up a brilliant day.
Of course, it goes without saying that we have to also say a huge thanks to the men who were piloting today.
We had one who was terrified but now is so full of her day that she wants her name down for next year.
Keep up the good work and hope to see you 2005

Just got home after a 14 hour aviation day and looking a bit like this :hmm:

Time to settle down to a bottle of good plonk methinks :ok:

This was my first Young Eagles Day and although extremely tired, it was worth it all to see the kids having such fun, not to mention the looks on the proud parents faces too when their kids told them all about their flying escapades.

Although I am not the official organiser and so the figures are mine and not official, when I left Cumbernauld this evening (as the last participating aircraft) we had between us flown around 131 youngsters. Not bad for a days work by pilots of all kinds from microlights to homebuilts, helicopters to ultralights and spamcans to aerial coaches (Cessna Caravan 208).

Myeslf and a fellow pilot managed to get 13 trips done between us in a Piper Archer - I shall certainly sleep well tonight !!!!

Thanks are of course due to all the pilots who take part, Richard for his organisation, the cadets and officers of the Air Training Corps who did the paperwork on the ground, the PFA West of Scotland Strut for their hospitality, and the marshallers and guys in the Air Ground Station who kept everything flowing smoothly with a busy circuit.

To all the youngsters who took the controls during the trips to let me have 40 winks .... well done ;)

Though I was disappointed to see that Flypuppy's mum disappeared before I could give her a trip ..... maybe her son has been talking too much about me :E In which case, she has a point :\

Looking forward to next year already ....... cheers !!!

Updated ...... confirmed 137 flown :ok:

Nice to see pictures of Cumbernauld. Sounds like you had a fantastic day - ironically the Oshkosh YE day was fogged out completely :(

I've forwarded your post to the YE "boss" in Oshkosh...

It was a very good day and, as has already been said, we flew 137 children. Not as many planes turned up as in past years, don't know why, but we had stirling help from a Cessna Caravan and a Piper Archer from Preswtick - thanks guys. I've put a report on our web page if anyone wants to have a look :

http://www.zen8546.zen.co.uk/page4.html

Thanks to all the pilots and it's great to see so many smiling faces :-)

Well Done chaps! I fear that down south we couldn't match that figure. I'm not sure why exactly but one of the school groups didn't show. :( But we managed to fly 34 Young eagles and a couple of Mature one's as well. :ok:

Well done Richard, 10W et al .... sorry couldn't make it with a 4 seater from Glasgow .... someone had already booked the plane and wasn't willing to step aside for a couple of hours to let me join in and help :*

Anyway, might try a rerun for another one on Islay (or Skye?) later in the year ...... if you think that's a goer ... wot with all the fuel logistics etc ... :E

Shame you couldn't make it, but definitely like the idea of doing something similar on Skye or somewhere :ok: Just need to find someone like Richard to organise it all. He did a great job ;)

I suppose we will both be free on the same days :p
