I'm nearly ready to start the real flying part of my IR (exams almost finished). Has anyone had good / bad experiences with IR training from schools in Southern England, West of London?

I did my SEIR with http://www.carillaviation.co.uk/ and no complaints - good instruction both in the air and the sim, and plenty of ex CAAFU staff around. I was lined up to use PFT, but I had to re-schedule, and they couldn't fit me in to suit my timetable, hence Carill

Can anyone also please indicate the flight test costs? These are rumoured to be around £800 for the examiner who has to come over from the USA.

Hi IO540,

I believe you may be thinking of a FAA IR checkride being conducted over here in the UK.

As far as I can tell (from the thread starter saying "exams" nearly finished) I believe that they are talking about the JAA IR course.

The CAA flight test fee can be found on the following link (pdf document):

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/175/srg_fcl_Scharges_ppl_05.pdf

(The fee is currently £637 for the initial attempt and if a partial is obtained a further £426 is payable for the re-test - these are payable directly to the CAA).

Best wishes,

Charlie Zulu.

I thought the JAA IR exam fee (GFT) was due to rise in april to about £1000...........

Maybe I'm thinking of ME IR?

Ah well, a bargain anyway at £637:ugh:

Has anybody had experience of Wycombe Aircentre or Blackbushe/Redhill?

Can I put a plug in for Bournemouth Flying Club (without this appearing as an advert) -- I did mine there, have suggested a few others I knew did their's there as well - no complaints, reasonable charges, nice summer location (if summer ever arrives) nice "club" for afterwards ;)

Can anyone tell me what the groundschool requirements are for a SEIR?

I am currently contemplating this, but I am confused about which ground exams I have to do?

Thanks

TZ

P.S. I would also recommend Bournemouth Flying Club based upon my own experiences so far with PPL/IMC/Night et al.
