Hi guys,

Do you, as ATCOs, share our frustration with some of the unclear, innacurate NOTAM we often see? Is this a problem for you guys as it is for GA pilots sometimes? (note: I am not referring to the NOTAM delivery system, but the content of the NOTAM themselves).

I would be interested in your thoughts, especially if your duties involve authoring the NOTAM: it seems that there is little guidance / training on how to create NOTAM so that they come through in a useful fashion to those that need to interpret them.

A glaring current example relates to temporary controlled airspace near Lyneham, reported by NOTAM for the benefit of us GA types so that we don't blunder into the lower vertical limit (2000') temporarily imposed. The trouble is that the NOTAM message doesn't indicate where this is happening in a form which has meaning for VFR pilots using published VFR charts.

Ref. the discussion http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=127491 which highlights this and some other examples.

Cheers all :ok:

Andy
