Hi all,

Am holidaying in Florida in August and would like to do a couple of hours - ideally out of Kissimmee. I currently have no intention of doing the whole licence conversion thing, and am happy to take an instructor with me.

Therefore, can anybody recommend an FBO who will lend me a PA28 variant and instructor for a couple of hours at a reasonable rate and who can be contacted electronically, based at Kissimmee?

Thanks!

Hi ThePirateKing,

Cabair has a USA school based at... Kissimmee, Orlando.

They are called Orlando Flight Training and can be found at the following web address(es):

http://www.flyoft.com/

and Cabair can be located at:

http://www.cabair.com/
http://www.cabair.org.uk/

They have PA28s and other types.

However I used OFT to hire a PA28 when they were still called Euroflight (just at the change over) back in July 1999 and, well I will never use them again.

Things may have changed though.

Best wishes,

Charlie Zulu.

You can try Sunstate Aviation, I used them a bit over a year ago but they only had new 172SP Cessnas and they were an OK bunch - They wern't the cheapest though!

Have a good time pirateking.

For what you want to do Sunstate or OFT will be fine. OFT have got he new diamond aircraft. Should be fun.

My question is why don't you want to do the whole licence conversion thing. Other than a couple of forms and a visit to the FSDO near the international airport thats it and you will have an FAA licence. You don't need an faa medical (the jar one will do) or even to fly. Getting an FAA licence is harder than it used to be and who knows when it will get harder. You may regret not doing it.

As for tailwheel try Jack Browns at winterhaven or those Harvard things on the Kissimmee airfield (Warbird adventures?)

Well, for some serious fun you could do worse than Warbird Adventures (http://www.warbirdadventures.com/). Have flown with them a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you have a large wallet you could fly a Mustang with Stallion 51 (http://www.stallion51.com/home.cfm).

Both are located on Kissimmee Airport.

A few miles down the road is Jack Brown's Seaplane Base (http://www.gate.net/~seaplane/). Not quite taildragging but great fun nonetheless.

Hi 18(???)greens,

Ultimately, I want to convert my licence, but for now we're just talking about a 10 day holiday with the missus.

I trained with Cabair, and I'm aware that OFT are affiliated with them. The prices I was seeing on their web site didn't really seem to be in keeping with the anecdotal numbers bandied around here. Is the Cabair/OFT affiliation also based on Cabair's UK pricing?!

Thanks,

Have just returned from a week flying from OFT in Kissimmee and didn't encounter any problems. Staff were helpful and aircraft in good order. As for cost, with the $ exchange rate as it is at present, even hiring a twin seemed affordable!

Definitely endorse the recommendation about the Warbirds too.
